New data: 155,000 people traveled out of state for abortion care in 2024.

Since Dobbs, state bans have had sweeping, detrimental effects on the US #AbortionAccess landscape.

No one should be forced to leave their state for essential abortion care.

Today, the Supreme Court hears oral arguments in Chiles v. Salazar, a case challenging Colorado’s 2019 ban on dangerous and discredited “conversion therapy.”

So-called “conversion therapy” is an abusive pseudoscience that has been rejected by EVERY major medical and mental health organization.

- Decimate access for young people

Navy blue text says, "Which states have enacted shield laws? 22 states and DC have shield laws for reproductive health or gender-affirming care, and 8 of these states protect telehealth provision." A map of the US shows states with shield laws in yellow and states with shield laws that extend to out-of-state telehealth in orange.

It's the anniversary of the Hyde Amendment & w/ nearly 50 years of denying abortion coverage to patients (disproportionally low-income patients, women of color, immigrant women) we're hopeful to one day see it gone. So ALL patients can get the care they need w/o financial barriers. #HealthCareForAll

While the data don't yet provide a basis for full-year findings, they offer an important preview of where and how people are accessing abortion in 2025.

States Without Total Abortion Bans See Declines in Clinician-Provided Abortions and Out-of-State Patients
gu.tt
guttmacher.org
Several factors may have contributed to these declines, including:

- Expanded access to #MedicationAbortion via shield laws in states with total bans

- Resource strains on abortion funds & support networks

- Increased barriers to travel as more state bans went into effect
guttmacher.org
New data: 518,940 clinician-provided abortions occurred in US states without total bans during the first half of 2025—a 5% decline from the same period in 2024. Out-of-state travel for abortion also declined by 8% over this period.

It’s been 25 years since the FDA approved mifepristone. Today, mife is essential to providing care across the US, but anti-abortion activists are doing everything they can to block access.

But for 49 years, the #HydeAmendment has blocked insurance coverage of abortion for people enrolled in Medicaid and other federal programs.

Congress must end Hyde now.
