The dominance of the medical model in mental health provision has driven & exacerbated mental health disability, which is why I'm bemused by disability activists who ardently support it....

I think it’s important for us as survivors/seekers/whatever to realize that just because a MH professional says they use a bio-psycho-social model doesn’t mean they’ve actually obtained any truth about the bio, the psycho or the social.

The wrong people/interventions can derail us catastrophically.

None of these points are accurate, you're fundamentally misunderstanding what they're saying.

They are not denying the abuses that happened in these programs. What they are saying is that calling these facilities "alternative" therapies paints them as lacking an institutional support that they/

Many of the parents who found these programs were referred to them by mainstream institutions, such as judges and school guidance counselors, and the mainstream American psychological industry considered some of them as legitimate psychiatric institutions.

As a Troubled Teen Industry survivor, I stand against the revisionism that's spreading in pro-psychiatry circles. Their narrative is that mainstream therapy is good and anything harmful is "alternative". The TTI programs are almost always mainstream especially the programs I went to.

Instead of that psych drug, perhaps what you really needed was time off work, a person to care & listen, a quiet place to retreat, reflect, reassess & repair. Perhaps you needed us to treat you as worthy of a kinder world; of a social & human rather than a chemical response.

This is true. And it’s also true the trans community has failed to police its sex pests.

We should be a lot more vocal about denouncing shitty, sexually inappropriate public behavior.l
I don't know. There is a contingent of agp where the dress is a fetish, but I would say there's no way to tell, so you should accept them all.

Can someone please view my post and screenshot the reply to it? I can't see because OP blocked me.
It's not ethical to cleanse a field of any contrary beliefs. Ironically that would create less trust in psychiatry because it is telling harmed patients that they will have no support in mainstream psychiatry, so they will switch to alternatives. Critical Psychiatry is the way to go.

People can refer to critical psychiatry as “anti-psychiatry” all they want. But the reality is a lot of victims of psychological abuse have been pathologized and marginalized by psychiatrists. An inconvenient fact, but a fact nonetheless. #mentalhealth

Capitalism is using neurodivergence "to dismantle subcultural rebellion by labelling 'deviant' behaviour to make it acceptable enough to be integrated into the mainstream". Is neurodivergent activism truly radical or surreptitiously enabling the status quo?

How neurodivergence became a subculture
In recent years, social media has allowed neurodivergent people to find community online – but is there a darker side to the ‘subculturalification’ of mental health conditions?
