Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism.

We have to sustain each other. Making joy isn’t denial, it’s how we will survive

I think it would make a big difference in our health if we banned Pharma ads from America like the rest of the world does.

Alright, I’m resolving the debate. All of these are simultaneously true:

1) Dems are the minority in Congress, greatly limiting their institutional power

2) Congressional Dems can and should be doing more

3) Some Dems are actually doing opposition, drawing public attention, etc

4) Not enough are

People confuse richness with morality. But all it is, is an accumulation of money. That's it.

And yet we think people are wiser, better, less falliable, if they have more money.

If you could understand the words being said during the rap battles in "Hamilton" and loved it, but are mad because you couldn't understand Kendrick Lamar at the NFL.. one way or another you are a liar.

Hard to know who's the bigger loser in Super Bowl 59. The KC Chiefs or Drake?

Scholars will debate this for years.

Someone call CSI because the Chiefs are getting SLAUGHTERED

SM "Trad wives" today are in their milkmaid dresses, making cheezits from scratch. They all want to be Betty Draper, ignoring her misery.

Trad wives of the 50s numbed their boredom & isolation with alcohol & amphetamines, while Black Women often did the cooking, cleaning, & raising her children.

The US constitution was built to avoid centralized power and tyranny.

It is not the constitution that is failing us.

It is the partisans who have promised to uphold the constitution that are failing us.

I hope historians don’t mistakenly assume we liked names like DOGE because we liked memes. I truly hope they capture the nuance that the meme in question was beyond stale and we all thought it was super cringe he named it that

I went to my Congressman's local office today. First off, they were surprised that I was there. They said they had been getting phone calls, but I was the first walk-in. That said, the phones were not ringing off the hook. If the DC phone lines are busy, try calling the local office.

A coup is when unelected persons or parties seize control of the government and govern through unconstitutional means. Musk is trying to do that with the acquiescence of an elected president. Not quite an auto-coup. More like an on-the-side coup.
This at an essential point. If Republicans want to abolish USAID they're as free to do that as with any other part of the government - through Congress. (i.e., follow the constitution) There's a budget process starting right now. Go for it. Doing it this way is illegal.
Conservative budget wonks (Manhattan Instiutte, Tax Foundation) confirming that this is a consittutional crisis. Not liberal hysteria. Happening right now.

My sense is that most people are so clueless and antagonistic toward news and politics that they won’t know, understand, or care what happened this weekend. If it becomes impossible for them not to notice they’ll be greeted with social media content spelling out an alternate reality to believe in

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world.

Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

You know why these guys are so willing to flagrantly and openly break the law? Because they’ve been doing it for years, testing the waters, seeing what they could get away with—and they got away with all of it. This is the consequence of no consequences and an injustice system.

The story of this first week is corruption. Billionaires seated on the inaugural stage in front of the cabinet, crypto pump and dump, and the illegal firing of IGs. The media is acting like this is too chaotic and bewildering to interpret, but they are just afraid of sounding shrill. It’s corrupt.
