What's the difference between the first two?

Teens are saturated with propaganda and advertising and algorithmically created epistemic "realities". They are picking up what the adults are putting down.
December 1, 2025 at 5:45 PM
Yes, but I don't blame the teens. The media has explicitly cultivated this image (probably for precisely the reason you mention)

I bet you're gonna delete this for saying "pubic intellectual" but have you considered that you shouldn't? Let there be STET

Wait can you say more about how the first two things add up to, or are compatible, with the third thing?

He had a mean temper when I was younger, so I guess I should appreciate that he's merely a smug narcissist these days.

He's a deeply stupid, ignorant, oblivious person and I hate that my illness has made me financially dependent on him of late. No amount of money spent by him on me can ever make me respect him, but every dollar I need from him makes me lose respect for myself.

Random people on Bluesky have been friendlier & more curious about my horrific depression than my dad who's been staying in a house and hotel with me for weeks. He sees me staying in bed for days at a time, getting up only to drink at the open bar in the evenings, and he doesn't ask anything at all.

Yup. And again, the comparison kinda fits: you wouldn't really need divine justice if there was total justice on Earth.
December 1, 2025 at 11:14 AM
Exactly. Moral rigor that is totalizing, universal, and totally inaccessible.
December 1, 2025 at 11:11 AM
I'm frightened
December 1, 2025 at 10:08 AM
Fair. Should've put "guaranteed" in scare quotes. I don't think what you're saying changes the substance of the comparison with afterlives at all though. "Guaranteed in the afterlife" isn't quite the guarantee I want it to be.

I just wanna give up and die
