we can adjust the way we look at this by taking _per account_ sentiment averages rather than just doing an average of all posts. i.e. if a single account were making a ton of negative posts, we don't want that to skew things. but we see a similar result. here is the past 3 days and the 24th to 26th

of course, this seems maybe related to the recent news. we can probably expect that the holiday season actually broke the "elder" rule here right? wrong. during the 24th to the 26th, the only groups of accounts who's posts were overall negative in sentiment were those from the oldest accounts here

okay so here's a different graph that is interesting. if we look at negative sentiment posts by the age of the account, there is a significant uptick in negative sentiment posts coming from "elder" accounts. this chart here is looking at the past 3 days.

for context, we can go back to an 11 day view, where we can see a significant uptick in positive sentiment on both christmas and new years. note that we don't see any fluctuation in toxicity even with the positive uptick, but we do see a big fluctuation with yesterday's events.

an understandably very negative sentiment yesterday evening, that also lead to an increase (shown as a downward trend) in toxicity. surprisingly though, it seems to be leveling back out rather quickly.
the slight downward trend earlier is the "come down" from the holidays.
