When I was running WIRED Games (rip) Reid's reviews were easily some of the best, most insightful ones I worked on.

If he has words to share about BF6, you should read them.

I reviewed Battlefield 6 for Kotaku

Don't expect much from the AI enemies in Battlefield 6's campaign, but there's plenty of grim war spectacle to enjoy otherwise.

Having also been in journalism that long (but not always games explicitly) I went from having editors who said "good work gets eyeballs" in 2010 to editors who said "everyone gets that we're here to make money, right" in 2024. I wonder what happened in the interim...

When I was games press back in 2008 - 2015, no-one *ever* talked to me about "we need to report on stuff that is going to make us money"

It was just never a thing. I reported on whatever games I damn well liked, and I helped make so many small games pop off -- so so many

Where is that now?

my favorite thing about this is how "we" is scratched out and replaced by "you" and that tells me everything I need to know

Happy Amazon Prime Day! Amazon collects mountains of data about how you use the service, but there is a setting you can change to make it harder for the company to use that data to sell you more things. #OptOutOctober www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...

This is SO REAL, I'm sitting on like four vods and I need to go through them and make clips. Every time I open one I'm like "ugh, this bitch again" and close it. XD

It's wild to me that a: someone can straight up say out loud "i have no values or morals, the only thing that guides me is personal gain" and be okay with themselves, and also that b: in a press obsessed with "objectivity" this is fine but "boy that racist guy said some racist stuff" is a problem

I kind of can’t believe this Bari Weiss quote is even real, and yet www.nytimes.com/2025/10/06/b...
“I know that there are some people in this room who don’t believe that my marriage should have been legal … and that’s ok. Because we’re all Americans who want lower taxes.”

Hi, if you're about to talk to me about yet another upward failure in this industry, I would much rather you read about what it's like to be someone who doesn't have that privilege *and* has to fight those people just to survive in it.

Apropos of nothing, I would like to point out that large companies whose business model is "serve words to the public" will typically pay between US $.10 and $3.00 per word. So when you give words to a company for free, you are in fact paying them a LOT of money.

Libra Szn is underway! Let's yap a bit and build the big backlog bracket together, shall we?

Come along and help me pick out games I haven't played that I need to. Live now:

I am desperately asking people to stop fawning over CEOs in general, even when they make things you like.

If this tech ecosystem should show you anything, it's that these companies build products. They have no interest in communities, safety, or justice in any sense.

*They do not have values.*
halophoenix.bsky.social
Backing this up - Some of the worst humans I know and have worked personally with were some of the chummiest, "let's get drinks"-iest, "not so bad in person"-ey people I've ever met.

Some of the most astounding racists I've met said they were "big fans of my work." They know how to play this game.

NB to the ppl replying “charisma???”: how do you think success happens, especially at this scale, especially for ppl with demonstrably marginal talent? Virtue has very little correlation with personal likeability. Naive verging on dangerous to think “bad politics” means “devoid of all qualities”
hels.bsky.social
Bari is a terrific example of a person who has, perhaps tragically, mistaken her charisma for intelligence

Aren’t you,
for the world to become good

Bari Weiss is set to be named the editor in chief of CBS News, the New York Post reports
Paramount Skydance is poised to name Bari Weiss as editor in chief of CBS News in the coming days — giving the hard-charging journalist unusual clout to revamp the struggling network as it also acquires her scrappy news site the Free Press, The Post has learned.

Weiss — a 41-year-old former New York Times opinion writer who has built the Free Press into a buzzworthy site with a contrarian bent — is expected to be named to the top post in a Monday announcement, although the talks are in flux and the timing could change, a source close to the situation said.

The only reason Bluesky exists in the form it does today is through the efforts of an entire community of trans shitposters. They are the bedrock foundation of this place and Bluesky needs to acknowledge that and take special measures to protect them. This is the very least Bluesky owes trans folks.
angryblacklady.blacksky.app
Which is why Bluesky needs to yeet Jesse Singal out of here. And to yeet JKR on sight when she brings her hate brigade over here. It should be non-negotiable.
