Devastated about Jane Goodall. What a giant of science communication and such a champion of empathy, love and understanding for every living being on this planet. If I manage to live my life with a tenth of the integrity and compassion she had, I'll be proud.

Jane Goodall's work insisting, with evidence from her brilliant and tenacious fieldwork, that we were not so separate from animals, and they were much more like us than the Eurocentric theorists asserted, was so important.

So great to finally see this in print! My piece about Arthur C. Clarke's typewriter which is held in the Science Fiction Special Collections in Liverpool. It appears in "Collecting Stories", a volume by @livunipress.bsky.social about objects held in the cultural collections at the university.

An image from Trek News. On this day, September 30, 1991, Star Trek: TNG “Darmok” aired for the first time. The image shows Jean-Luc Picard and the Tamarian Dathon standing side by side, armed with knives, ready to fight the beast.

Just taking a trip down memory lane when Blair tried to do this. Here's a photo of some protesters from 2003 when all photographs were taken with potatoes.

Thank you to all that contributed to our Voyager exhibit today and created golden records at the British Science Festival! Some of my favourites are here, but I know I missed many so I'll be going through them once I've recovered a bit! @britsciassoc.bsky.social

Complete acknowledgement and thank you to @jonathanthornton.bsky.social, a PhD student in the English department at The University of Liverpool, who led the curation of this project, spent a long time digging up absolute gems in the archive, and wrote the texts!

If you are applying to a PhD, don't use an LLM in composing your proposal.

If you are doing a PhD, don't use an LLM to do the writing and reading and thinking for you.

Sorry, I am going to die on this hill.
