In the most exciting creative news of my life, I can finally share what @rikworth.bsky.social and I have been hard at work at for the past year.

PETS TELL TALES: ANCIENT EGYPT from @hachettechildrens.bsky.social will be on bookshelves in July & is available to preorder NOW! 👉 geni.us/PetsTellTales
Cover art for Pets Tell Tales: Ancient Egypt featuring a pharoah anxiously holding open the jaws of a hippo with his legs. A falcon swoops between his legs, a cobra snake is wrapped around his arm and a baboon shoots a spit ball at him from behind some reeds - where a dog, ibis bird, cat, and strange dog-like Set creature also look out from. Pyramids are seen in the distance and the sunset sky fades into stars above.

This is so fun to look at it took me a good few seconds for my brain to untangle.

An excellent video by Kurzgesagt explaining the nature and depth of the contamination problem - of *information* moreso than art (despite the thumbnail, although both apply). And nice to see them making a promise to always be human-made.

I won't be able to make it to this excellent panel discussion with @karriefransman.bsky.social @paulfisherdavies.bsky.social and my boy Rik, but some of my art will be part of the exhibition alongsides greats like @nsousanis.bsky.social @kaysohini.bsky.social @cartoonkate.bsky.social !

The advice is the be wary of Amazon rankings because they are frankly the work of madmen, but we did 2 school events in Leeds yesterday and it’s very rewarding to see Pets Tell Tales shoot up the rankings.

Full disclosure. I have no idea if they are actually related but I’ll take it!

Hello America & Canada, it’s publication day for This Slavery!

It’s the story of two sisters living in 1910s UK who work in cotton weaving factories. It’s about women’s place in industrial capitalism, and how marriage can be about power & control.

It’s also an inch-thick comic with a dog in it

🌟 IT LIVES! 🌟 The UK Comics Creator Survey is BACK, baby!

Here to gather up, analyse and disseminate your data to help uplift the comics world, like if Robin Hood was a statistician or something.

It took me a great many seconds to register that those were holes in the glass and not Slash's eyes.

Oh this sucks. I worked in uni and in for almost a decade and had known/felt it for a while, but never heard someone just say it out loud like that.

Everyone who is behind this survey wants your voice to be counted. Everyone who is *boosting* this survey wants your voice to be counted.

Behold the absolutely bangin' 1940s lunar spacesuit design by the British Interplanetary Society. Thermal cape, front airlock for specimen collection, shooting stick, and a goddamn knight's helmet. The National Space Centre even built a "working" version of it: www.spacecentre.co.uk/collections/...
Concept drawing of an astronaut on the surface of the Moon, climbing over the crest of a rocky hill. He looks like a retro-futuristic knight. Photo of a replica of the suit. It is buff. It is shiny. It looks slightly less cool than the drawing but somewhat more practical.

Yes, the dragonfly was drawn with this very brush. 🧐🔍
Detail from a silhouette drawing in black ink of a dragonfly, photographed with a penny and the traditional Chinese brush it was drawn with. The detail is very tiny and intricate. The penny could eclipse the dragonfly entirely with room to spare.

Gosh even a single still from this "scene" looks tacky. Making Hallmark movies blush.

I feel like people are getting distracted by Oscar Isaac in this shot. But look at the lighting! The composition! How gorgeous and mysterious Oscar Isa-wait.

This is a perfect week to buy, directly from the Jane Goodall institute, Patrick McDonnell’s gorgeous and excellent children’s book biography of Jane Goodall. My daughter’s favorite book for what feels like a year, because of how often we read it.
