just look at these graphs. so much pseudoscience in the guidance.
two graphs.
the top graph has importance on the y axis and time on the x axis, with three regions marked "ending, losing, letting go", "the neutral zone", and "the new beginning"
the bottom graph is labelled "the transition curve", with optimism/pessimism on the y axis and time on the x axis, with a U-shaped curve drawn through it

... among other things, we'll be discussing how this guidance involves an insidious sort of medicalisation, whereby legitimate objections to the planned redundancies are almost dismissively viewed as "symptoms" of being unable to adapt to change. (2/2)

in tomorrow's philosophy of psychiatry reading group, we'll be pulling apart the university guidance on coping with change. as you may know, mass redundancies are planned at Lancaster University. hence, management have published guidance on coping with change based on the Kübler-Ross model ... New! Cassetteboy vs Keir Starmer.

This took absolutely ages, so if you'd like to buy us a coffee at ko-fi.com/cassetteboy we'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

I was wondering when "fellas, is it right-wing to be in a loving relationship?" would enter the discourse

also, according to Thomas Nagel, he was a massive horndog
I can’t resist adding one other thing I found sympathetic: He was one of
the most erotic members of our profession. No one is uninterested in sex, of
course, but for some of us it is at the center of our experience of the world.
This was true of Donald, as was evident to anyone who knew him well. I
remember a small emblematic moment when we were walking in the country
and came upon a large rhubarb plant bursting out of the ground with an
extraordinary phallic thrust. Donald looked at it and said, ‘Father Nature.’

I thought Davidson was robustly left-leaning, in stark contrast to his mentor Quine

Dr. Jane Goodall filmed an interview with Netflix in March 2025 that she understood would only be released after her death.

I'm enjoying that one too. I think the reason why I never really paid much attention to her music before is that despite her incredible lyricism and versatility, it's all within safe boundaries. wonderful music but nothing goes especially hard, intense, or unpredictable for me to take special notice

our twins had a Taylor Swift sticker activity book, and it totally blew their minds several months later when they learned that Taylor Swift is a real person

I've never properly listened to Taylor Swift, but I feel that I should. but where do I begin?? she's soooo prolific

yeah when it happens I usually begin thinking in my native burmese but borrowing philosophical vocabulary from english or occasionally sanskrit 😭
hane.bsky.social
the first thing that usually goes when I'm nervous or stressed is my ability to put english sentences together verbally, which kind of sucks as a philosopher working in the anglophone tradition

do any other second-language english speakers get this?

yeah conversations with 4yos are such a wild and dark ride. when our eldest kid was that age he used to set aside toys for "the little girl with the sad face who used to live in my room"
