Asia's largest underwater robo competition,Singapore AUV Challenge (#SAUVC) 2026 edition will be held in Sanya,China,May 28-31.Co-sponsored by IEEE+Harbin univ., it is preceded by the OCEANS conf, making it a fantastic opportunity to engage with a wider robotics community. Mark your calendars! (1/2)

..of the water surface at the time of the call, & displays these results alongside recorded environmental parameters in real-time. The idea is that while acoustics is a great way to trigger detection, its useful to look at the scene multi-modally to get an overall 'picture' of what's happening.(2/3)

Thrilled to announce my recently published work on polar monitoring using computer vision at IEEE OCEANS, a culmination of some fieldwork in Svalbard last year.It focuses on estimation of floating ice distribution in glacial bays using aerial imagery by fine-tuning+robustifying a SAM model. (1/2)

The panel put forward thought-provoking discussions & got some great qs from the audience. Overall, the panel identified the need for plans to translate to actions, emphasized the need for funding, capacity building, co-design & stakeholder engagement.Tools like AI can be enablers moving forward

The UN #OceanDecade has been going strong for 3+ years, becoming the largest global #oceanscience initiative ever! Its time to take stock of where we are & what the challenges/gaps are. I was honored to moderate a panel at the OCEANS conference in Halifax recently to discuss these issues. (1/2)

Why didn't the chicken cross the road ?
Because it saw no Jay walking.

It ties up ~3 yrs of research on detecting sounds of #dolphins, #dugongs etc from 10 island sites around #Singapore (focusing on acoustic method itself now rather than behavioral). Idea is to use this to understand visitation trends for biodiversity and impact assessment (2/2)

Just after my Antarctic return, I'm in for a bonus. My research on studying glaciers in the Arctic using acoustics and robotics, have been covered by national news
Straits Times ! Proud moment indeed to be featured for my work. Watch out for the robo pic!

The Antarctic is indeed a special, mystical place, quite removed from rest of the world, with a charm that makes you want to come back. They say that you come here for penguins & you return for the ice-well, I went for the glacier ice and bubbles, and I got lots of it! (2/2)

So, I successfully completed my maiden 11-day expedition to the Antarctic thanks to Nat Geo & Lindblad expeditions ! Didn't expect I'd be able to learn so much, get so much data, on our first voyage here.Stunning views, great outings & unique biodiversity added to my experience (1/2)
