NYC Broadway show roundup 🎭

JUST IN TIME: One of the best stage performances I’ve ever seen, Jonathan Groff was born for this role! His joy made me teary. 🥹 The show isn’t the strongest narratively, but the set is beautiful and staging immersive. Seeing Sarah Hyland as Connie Francis was a delight!

I’m tired of awards shows trying to come up with ways to shorten winners’ speeches. This terrible bit felt particularly cruel, especially when there were so many first-time winners. Let’s cut the presenters’ banter instead, which is usually the time suck during these broadcasts!

It seems fairly obvious that the full amount of money will be donated no matter what, but given we're living in an era where essential programs and institutions left and right are being gutted and having their funding rescinded (*ahem*), this is in the poorest of taste, and worse: it ain't funny!
OMG this Boys and Girls bit, I wish they would admit it's not working and ditch it completely

The devaluation of skill, experience, and expertise is a crisis across cultural journalism right now--it's being felt profoundly in theater. It's great that anyone can post a review, but that does not, even in the smallest way, replace what's being thrown away.

my excitement for this upcoming awards season has diminished with this news, and my favorite podcast has been changed irrevocably w/out Richard and David. while there are far worse news stories right now, “Little Gold Men” has been a bi-weekly spark of joy for me for 9+ years. I’m so sad. 😞

I love Colbert for who he is as a person, more than anything. I am sad for him but know he will be brilliant no matter what he chooses to do next.

CBS canceled Colbert’s show just THREE DAYS after Colbert called out CBS parent company Paramount for its $16M settlement with Trump – a deal that looks like bribery.

America deserves to know if his show was canceled for political reasons.

Watch and share his message.

I am grieving the barbarism that is going to unfurl from all this. People are going to die. Livelihoods gone. All to feed a corrupt kleptocracy.

I see every day up close how different it is from the first time around. There are no guardrails. A disaster. I’m sorry we have to live through this.

It’s a terrible bill. It will literally kill people. The most vulnerable among us will suffer as the wealthiest benefit. It’s perverse. I wish there were something I could do. But alas, I am only a U.S. Senator from Alaska whose “no” vote would kill the bill. So I voted yes. You get it.
