An old rainforest oak like this, thick with epiphytes and ivy, is more than just a tree.

It's a mini ecosystem. 🌏

A walk in the woods today with neighbours. We found loads of different types of oak galls as well as the beautifully named dog vomit slime mold.
A mossy tree trunk with dog vomit slime mold. This is a very bright yellow splodge halfway up the trunk Marble oak gall. 3 small brown balls (size of acorns but spherical) At the bottom of a green oak leaf Cherry oak galls on the base of oak leaves being held up to the camera by one of my neighbours Artichoke oak gall in the middle
Of a bunch of oak leaves. It is brown and the same shape as an artichoke though just slightly larger than an acorn

Across 142 routes in Europe, trains are on average twice as expensive as flights

On some routes, they are 26 times the price

Low-cost airlines profit from unfair tax exemptions, but trains are burdened with VAT, energy taxes and high track fees

Governments and the EU must stop rewarding polluters
Low-cost flights up to 26 times cheaper than trains - Greenpeace European Unit
Brussels, 21 August 2025 – A new Europe-wide Greenpeace study shows that climate-damaging flying is still cheaper than taking the train on a majority of  cross-border routes – even though…

My latest blog. This time about seagulls - you’ll never look at them in the same way again.
wildcard.land
Strictly speaking there's no such thing as a seagull but if we're to hang on to the existence of some of our gull species we need to do more.

What would the seaside be without the call of herring gulls and why do they steal our chips?

Check out our latest blog.

Rewilding Species of the month: seagulls - Wild Card
Though some don't get their greatness, rewilding of our seas and coastline is desperately needed to save our endangered seagulls.

"Agropastoral activities have impacted the habitable part of our planet—the “Critical Zone”—for thousands of years (...)
They disrupted the balance between soil formation and erosion, leading to erosion rates 3 to 10 times faster than soil production since the end of the Ice Age."

Thanks to @wildcard.land for hosting our #Ghostwoods walk through #HardcastleCrags last Sunday; raising awareness about our #AncientWoodlands and how they might be restored in line with the gradual harvesting of non-native pinewood plantations, to restore the balance of indigenous flora and fauna

Our privatised water system is broken - and water lobbyists have worked hard to shut down alternatives.

In July the People’s Commission is launching a people-first vision for our water in Parliament.

Your MP needs to hear about it: actionnetwork.org/letters/ask-...
Ask your MP to show their support for a people-first future for our water!
We can make our water work for people - not shareholders - but water lobbyists are working hard to shut this solution down. Will you make sure your MP hears about it?
