In reality, the war and the resulting economic ruin are optional but they aren't going to care.

Russia got special treatment after the fall of the USSR. Europe integrated it to its economy and this is what we got 🧌

Unlike a swift (too late) and decisive (still possible) defeat, it's unlikely to lead to repentance or change in Russian society and political system.

They'll stew in their hatred for Westerners for x-xx years and come back to revenge us ruining their economy.

- Russia's economic ruin is better than Russia winning, but it's suboptimal. It guarantees that Russia will be a headache to its neighbors for a long time.

Just to clarify, I am not in favor of the slow response. I always wanted a swift hit on Russia, and it should have happened already in the spring of 1992 when Russia went to war with Moldova.

EU's slow response EU to Russian warfare makes a Russian state collapse more likely. EU's measures are slowly eating away at the Russian body in a way a swift and resolute response would not. Time is not on Russia's side. Eventually China will also not want to be fettered to a corpse.
