Ponderer and wanderer. Interested in everything; expert in pretty much nothing, alas. Day job: process and systems improvement. Life goal: Understand how everything works.
"That's just the way we do things" is not an acceptable answer. To anything, really.

All Yule log enjoyers are pagans. Think about that the next time you set the 12 hour Yule log in fireplace video as background for a family gathering this season.
Yule ≠ Christmas

Yule is one of the oldest winter solstice festivals, with origins among the ancient Norse thousands of years ago.

Although today it’s heavily associated with, and even confused with, Christmas, the celebration existed long before Christianity. 🧵⬇️

If anyone in Minneapolis would be willing to talk to me about the DFL senior caucus and give me some insight before I join, please let me know. (For example, they don't seem to define "senior" but I'm pretty sure I'm not yet one, and is that ok?)

This week's hot topic:
REFRIGERATOR ETIQUETTE

I know having to show up to an office to work for no good reason is somewhere between annoying and rage-inducing but c'mon, you can still be a decent and sensible human being.

Taking a break from city politics for a sec to just say Tom Emmer really really sucks.

Honestly couldn't ask for a nicer day to vote. Thank you November, blue sky, trees of Powderhorn Park, body that still lets me walk when I really want to.

Halloween blizzard of '91? Been there, done that. Let me tell you about Halloween '87. Chilly but not cold; cloudy; no snow. Walking home from the grocery store, kids asked for candy. Looked in my bag and best I could offer was a box of Cap'n Crunch. They declined. I enjoyed my cereal. The end.

Heard a tremendous racket, came to the kitchen, found this. At least it's not another shattered coffee cup this time.

Went digging in a drawer for something else and found this.

I think Minnesota used to be super DFL? Anyway, Just Do It.

In honor of spooky month, share a 4 word horror story that only someone in your profession would understand.

Got lots of thoughts about this but LOL OF COURSE is the best I can do for now. I mean, I'm not against back to office policies per se, but whether private or public, management needs to get their shit together. Maybe take some classes? Professional development?

Awful lot of signage for a place with only 16 people.

I used to drink raw milk from our cows... Just sayin'. It went from the milk tank into our fridge then onto my cereal. Do not try this at home.

My mom's work is not forgotten because she had a full time job and paid no mind to the farm stuff.
When people say "We used to drink raw milk from our own cow and it was fine,"

That's... usually not the case!

In families w their own cow, the mom usually boiled it before using.

We just forgot bc that's a boring chore that mom did. And who pays attention to that?

Aww, cows! I had a cow in this barn once. A pure-bred Guernsey named Queenie. Unfortunately she happened to be in heat that week and was quite uncontrollable so I/we came in last in showing. Also happened to be the year I learned to play poker. In this barn. I was 13.
There are cathedrals everywhere for those with the eyes to see

I really want to move back to the country. To the house my parents built on 10 wooded acres after selling our dairy farm in 1983. Could make an awesome artist/writer retreat. But I'm struggling to find a more self-defeating and intentionally isolating part of the state. #quandry #ToddCounty
