This lovely boy never did learn to spell my name. Makes me sad that I won’t be getting a Xmas text from him this year. If you can, please donate to either of these charities- they work towards the prevention of young suicide.

Just spent Christmas Eve watching my favourite film ever, The Princess Bride. When DIRECTED BY ROB REINER came up on the screen at the end I burst into floods of tears. I mean real ugly crying. Never let anyone say that art is unimportant; I had no idea how much his films meant to me until now.

My favourite thing about Xmas: my mother’s honey & mustard glazed ham 😋

My cat’s way of telling me that I’ve finished sorting clothes for tonight so I guess we’ll watch The Muppets’ Christmas Carol now

Please, if you plan on getting a TEFL cert & teaching abroad: take it seriously. It involves safeguarding children & adults, respecting local laws & customs, & being accountable to employers & students. It takes skill, dedication & commitment. It’s a profession, not a Get Out of Jail Free card.

I never would have thought David Walliams would be capable of such things.

My mother just reminded me of something that I’d completely forgotten about: that time I kissed Howard Marks at a book signing. It was a proper smacker too, right on the lips.

WHO DO WE EMAIL TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN
It seems very silly that Nick Offerman hasn’t played Orson Welles yet.

If you love The Princess Bride this thread is essential reading
As you may know, I have stopped using Twitter, and have decided to reproduce some of my more memorable threads here for posterity. Here’s one I hold wrote after a particularly engaging swordfighting lesson.

Buckle up, swordfighting fans, because I *have* studied my Agrippa!

It’s a horrible thing that’s happened, but the number of videos I’ve seen today reminding me of that Mr. Rogers quote has made me feel so much better about humans in general: “Look for the helpers.” There are always far more people doing the helping than there are the hurting.

I found out recently that KCL, Cardiff Uni and Oxford have all found that some U.K. viewers of 9/11- particularly millennials- have been affected with some kind of subclinical PTSD because our news channels didn’t censor what was happening- we saw falling bodies and recognisable faces at windows. 🧵

The Director of Eurovision said today that the contest “shouldn’t be used as a political theatre.” That’ll be why Cyprus always has 12 points for Greece and Azerbaijan always has 12 for Turkey and no one ever has any for the United Kingdom- because it’s completely apolitical. Bollocks indeed.

Another “benefit” of leaving the EU: it now costs us more to be disappointed by the Mona Lisa.
The Louvre Museum’s board on Thursday agreed to increase prices by 45% for visitors outside the European Economic Area, including Americans, as part of efforts to raise funds to overhaul the beleaguered institution.
