One sign of healing RE mental health is Wen you reread a self-help book you read Wen things were really dire and you thought was insightful and now realize that it's actually garbage
hellozeik.bsky.social
I really just need a book to talk about interpersonal stuff with awareness of patriarchy, racism, ABLEISM inEURODIVERGENC etc. Why is this so hard to find?
hellozeik.bsky.social
DECOLONIAL it's usually a red flag for me book titles and intros etc. at this point. And also that whole genetic trauma thing is blown way way out of proportion/Extrapolated to a far-fetched degree
hellozeik.bsky.social
My very tiny QUEENDOM for a mental health self-help book that doesn't ignore things like patriarchy and cultural practises impacting mental health and also doesn't focus entirely on racism etc. and erase histories of oppression within BIPOC communities in the name of decolonization

Some people will also stop checking in on you when they realize chronic illnesses...are a chronic pain in the butt.

People think that when you become disabled, support magically appears

That once it’s “official” you will have your basic needs met

The truth is people fight for years to get the bare minimum in benefits

Caregivers are nearly impossible to find

If you’re not rich or very lucky… you’re on your own
hellozeik.bsky.social
In my case the salsa part of this is pretty strong as in then I would be able to state what I need without feeling like I'm being overly demanding just because other people don't state their needs explicitly
hellozeik.bsky.social
I'd much rather it was common practice to just share our lists of access and other needs with friends Family etc. And vice versa rather than have a nebulous concept of being considerate of other people's needs when those needs are not necessarily explicitly stated
hellozeik.bsky.social
I also find all that stuff about how autistic people communicate better with the autistic people not particularly useful. I don't doubt it it's true but better doesn't actually mean good.
hellozeik.bsky.social
Whereas other relationships which are supposed to not be transactional and be "reciprocal" Etc. Are horribly stressful in practice BC constantly trying to INTUIT unstated expectations/Needs etc.
hellozeik.bsky.social
As autistic person constantly confused about social scripts, I find over the transactional of relationships so much easier just because of the clarity of what's expected.
hellozeik.bsky.social
Honestly I don't believe the lefty thing about all relationships not being transactional. I am eat all relationship relationships are transactional. The only difference is which ones make the transaction explicit versus not.

Disabled people are forced on Medicare. Disabled people are also more likely to be needing things like telehealth BC bedbound etc. And many of us will die without access to this Care
hellozeik.bsky.social
And call your fucking reps and tell them to make telehealth and integrated part of Medicare rather than part of some Covid related flexibility provisions.
hellozeik.bsky.social
And now it's telehealth. For me a bedbound person who requires a GURNEY to leave my apartment apparently it's not medically necessary to get telehealth to see my Allergist who is keeping me alive
hellozeik.bsky.social
Last year I discovered that Medicare does not consider my fucking allergy Dietician who is essential to keeping me fed and alive as not medically necessary.
hellozeik.bsky.social
Gotta love one politicians to cry insurance companies practising medicine but then practice Medicine themselves by deciding what Medicare covers this medically necessary or not
hellozeik.bsky.social
I really want proponents of universal healthcare who use the slogan of Medicare for all uncritically and superficially to remember this week of so many of us being denied telehealth for essential care BC of the fucking GOVT shut down

If anyone is curious the book is complex PTSD by Pete Walker.
Probably I should've put it down after the intro has the author"Finding himself" In India and making benevolent orientalist observations about South Asian parent child relationships
hellozeik.bsky.social
I literally laughed out loud

Remind me to stop reading books by white psychologists
hellozeik.bsky.social
If I didn't already know this book was written by White psychologist, the part about tell your inner child that you would go back in time and call CPS on your parents and as an adult you have access to legal system that will help you… that would've done it.

Using AI tools reminds me of the days of dial up Internet when things actually took a noticeable a lot of time to do

If anyone is curious she's supposed to be my mascot. Because I'm a medical unicorn, Queer and the horn is supposed to represent my schizo affective disorder which I described as going to the frozen yoghurt store and swirling a mood disorder with a psychotic disorder.
hellozeik.bsky.social
Can someone tell me how to add all text to profile photos here? In the meantime here's my description: an AI generated power pose wind blown head shot of a smiling unicorn whose stripes are rainbow coloured and who has a mint green/peach swirl together horn.

Gotta love wealthy academic Medical centres that do help equity research but don’t accept Medicaid patients
hellozeik.bsky.social
Medicaid: . We're going to help patients by not allowing DOCS to balance bill and also not allowing patients to self pay even if they want to. But it's totally OK for DOCS just not accept Medicaid patients . Oh you have a rare disease W two DOCS in city neither of which takes Medicaid? Sucks for you
