We need a Disabilty Equality Champion in City Hall and the Mayor needs to change his position on this. So we will continue to push for a voice for disabled Londoners. Please sign this inclusion London petition. If London is accessible, we all benefit. 👉🏽 bit.ly/41iaC1Z
Title: London needs a Disability Champion

There are 1.2 million disabled Londoners who need a voice in City Hall. We need this advocate to remove the barriers in all aspects of policy making. The London Assembly voted unanimously for this champion in September last year. We made a promise to disabled Londoners and we must make it happen.

Two years ago, we watched in horror those appalling scenes of Hamas’s evil terrorist attack on Israel.
“Two years ago, we watched in horror those appalling scenes of Hamas’s evil terrorist attack on Israel. 1,200 innocent people brutally slain, including hundreds of young people at a music festival. Others raped, sexually assaulted and mutilated. 251 people taken hostage, ripped away from their families.
“Those terror attacks also triggered a shocking rise in antisemitism here in the UK – a terrible scourge that took the lives of Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz at their synagogue last week.
“We stand in solidarity with British Jews, the people of Israel and Jewish communities around the world against terrorism and against antisemitism in all its forms.
“This cycle of violence has gone on for far too long, caused far too much suffering and claimed far too many innocent lives.
“With new peace talks under way, we desperately hope that they will finally see the hostages returned home to their families, a lasting bilateral ceasefire, Hamas out of power in Gaza for good." Ed Davey

Delighted to share my Federal Board manifesto! It was such a pleasure to serve on Federal Board as Young Liberals Chair and I am incredibly grateful to have support from a number of brilliant people

Thanks @eddavey.libdems.org.uk - we must make sure all our places of worship are safe places for all. 👇🏽

I am horrified by the images of a mosque in Peacehaven burning after a suspected arson attack.

Everyone should be able to worship free from fear and terror.

Islamophobia is totally unacceptable. Those who spread hatred and incite violence against Muslim communities must stop.

People spreading antisemitic hate and inciting violence against Jews are getting away with it.

We fear the government’s approach will do nothing to tackle that while undermining the fundamental right to peaceful protest.

"The Conservatives made a total mess of protest laws and left us with the worst of all worlds – wasting police time arresting people for legitimate peaceful protest, while letting others get away with inciting violence. I fear Labour seem to be following them down the same path, instead of properly reforming these powers to focus on the real criminals and hate preachers."

I agree fully with Hina on this: "the right to protest is a fundamental part of British democracy.”

It's not a surprise to see the Conservatives and Reform forget about freedom of speech when it's not speech they agree with.

Horrified and appalled by the attack outside Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

My thoughts are with the victims, our brave emergency services and the entire Jewish community.

Some reflections after watching tonight's #Panorama exposing misogyny, racism and violence in the Met Police. It's appalling, unacceptable and, sadly, it doesn't come as a surprise.
hinabokharild.bsky.social
Allegations from BBC's undercover Panorama investigation into the Met Police are profoundly disturbing. We know racism and misogyny is a widespread institutional problem in all of London's public services. The Mayor must show leadership and bring real action to end this crisis.

Today I wrote to TfL Commissioner Andy Lord asking him to remove the flags unlawfully erected on roads outside Merton Council. Allowing them to remain risks legitimising the weaponisation of our flag and compounding the feelings of exclusion and unease in the communities we serve.
A letter from Hina Bokhari to TfL Commissioner Andy Lord: I am writing to raise serious concerns regarding the Union flags that have recently been erected on TfL-managed roads outside Merton Council. While the Union flag is, in many contexts, a proud national symbol of unity, its unlawful placement across our neighbourhoods is part of a growing pattern of activity that is being used not to celebrate, but to intimidate. We have seen a worrying escalation in recent months of far-right groups deliberately misusing the national flag to spread fear amongst minority communities and the sudden appearance of flags in public spaces has compounded feelings of unease and exclusion.
For many residents, the presence of these flags does not signify unity or patriotism. Instead, it carries the chilling message that only some people are welcome here, and others are being marked out as strangers in their own community. This kind of intimidation undermines community cohesion and directly contradicts London's values of inclusivity and safety for all. The distinction must be made between flags flown in lawful, celebratory
contexts - such as at sporting events or civic buildings - and those placed
without permission in ways that lead to feelings of intimidation, whether
that was the intent or not. Allowing these particular displays to remain
risks legitimising the weaponisation of a national symbol and sends
entirely the wrong message to the communities we serve.
I therefore urge TfL to act swiftly to remove these flags from public roads
in Merton and to ensure that future unlawful displays are not tolerated.
London should be a place where everyone, regardless of their
background, can walk the streets without fear.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your
assurance that steps will be taken to address these concerns.

I’ve been on Sutton High Street this morning with Deliveroo - to talk about the impact of delivery bikes and illegally modified e-bikes on the safety of local residents.

We had a constructive conversation about better monitoring and minimising the disruption to pedestrians.
