It's that time of the year again where Spotify tells me my top listened song and I have no idea how it sounds because my listening habits include playing a song on repeat in the background by accident and without sound.

Dispatch is pretty great. But what is funny is that it really isn't about

A superheroes
B office work

Sure both are part of it but in actuality it is, like most great stories, about humans. The rest is very entertaining set dressing.

You need that set dressing. But never neglect the humans.

Sometimes you are writing a thesis on OSR and the perfect source floats onto your feed. I wasn't even done reading and I'd already added this to my Zotero library.

I can't stop thinking about the NWOF. The previous definition for the New Wave of Fantasy was based on measurability but that is poor for design so instead I've written down what I believe to be the design ethos behind these games: The NWOF Promise blog.hiskih.fi/the-nwof-pro...

My brain literally rewired after checking this out. I'd already been working on something that these ideas slotted well into but I'm just sitting here brain crunching now.

New terminology coming in hot from the NSR cauldron. We hand an interesting discussion yesterday about a phenomenon I coined the New Wave of Fantasy. Read all about it and why I dropped the Heroic from the acronym here: blog.hiskih.fi/new-wave-of-...

When you test a design you are looking for flaws and faults. Remember to pay attention to what works and enjoy the wins too. It's never perfect anyway.

Someone mistook their copy of Into the Odd for a historical document.
Job occupations, from an 1881 census. Every one of these sounds like something a sorely provoked Captain Haddock would should at someone in times of heavy stress.

Despite occasional marginalization or harassment, participating in RPG discourse communities holds autotelic social and intellectual gratifications: theorizing together is inherently enjoyable.

Small rant about noodles that say you can fry them in a wok and then proceed to disintegrate and stick to the wok immediately when done so. Feels like they expect a non-stick. There is a particular brand of Chinese noodles I've found to be good for frying. Most western noodles just can't do that.

There is an interesting trend with food companies releasing healthy meals made of chicken and oats. Unlike every other food they make these are packaged in a way you can't see the food and there is no picture. This is because the food in these looks really awful. Some are quite tasty fortunately.
