35 years ago today, Congress passed H.R. 2372, the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act, providing limited, one-time payments of $50,000-$100,000 to some people sickened by atmospheric nuclear testing in Nevada from 1951-62, or mining, milling, or transporting uranium ore. www.justice.gov/civil/reca

Men complain about loneliness but have they even tried serving us boozy cheese sauce in the parlor with one of these babies?

We used to be a proper country.

Pouring on the rarebit in DREAM OF A RAREBIT FIEND (1906), live action adaptation of the Winsor McCay comic.

The chafing dish cheese sauce was wildly popular but director Edwin S Porter's decision to feature multiple beer bottles in shot gives added context to our hero's bizarre dreams.

Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

After a few days, I received one of the most bizarre phone calls I’ve ever had, asking “So when are you coming to pick up your owl?” 🧵

A lot of the problems people write in about for my work advice column could be solved by a union.
This week it's someone being forced to do night shifts. I'm not saying call in sick when you're not, but I'm not ~not~ saying that. slate.com/advice/2025/... on @slate.com

Both radioactive green sklodowskite & jet black phantom mannardite looking like a welter of spiders in glass look ready for spooky season.

Both are named for scientists
(Marie Skłodowdka-Curie & Dr. George William Mannard, Canadian exploration geologist for whom my Dad worked). 🤔
