I love this paper. It is a culmination (well, maybe there will be a book) of a long-time agenda on how regime type conditions the (causal!) effect of education on political participation. Within this paper, and across 3 papers, we show that there is an inverted-U relationship.

To facilitate research, for example, we have coded up incumbent and runner-up vote shares, an added the incumbent winning margin in the past municipal election. We really hope this sparks a lot of subnation research in Mexico as Francisco would have wanted.

The data, published in honor of the late Francisco Cantú, includes electoral results at the precinct level for all available Mexican municipal elections since 1994 until 2019 (although we are extending it until 2024).
