You really should read this fascinating and profound interview with Columbian President Gustavo Petro. How many other world leaders are acknowledging that "Climate change is just the atmospheric mirror of capital accumulation on Earth"?
pederoe.bsky.social
This piece by Andreas Malm & Maxy Guez brilliantly captures both how mind-bogglingly difficult, but also courageous, the Colombian pledge not to permit new exploration of fossil fuels actually is.
Colombia Against the Fossil Fuel Age
Colombia’s energy transition is not just playing out in policy papers — it’s unfolding in oil fields, coal towns, and courtrooms. Jacobin spoke with engineers, unionists, and President Petro himself a...

Lula is much more hemmed in by a very conservative Congress than in his earlier terms, but some of the decisions - like doubling down on oil and gas - are fully his. And then there are lots of "distractions", like the trial of the ex-president and Trump's 50% tariff, etc etc. COP is not top of mind

The updated concept of the Tropical Forest Forever Facility is out. It brings greater clarity+demonstrates progress, after inputs received from governments, Indigenous Peoples + local communities, and CSOs. I'm glad to be helping with the #TFFF design on behalf of the @wcs.org.

Very happy to endorse it: While she is clear-eyed about the many problems of extraction, Riofrancos also offers thoughtful steps toward a more humane and decarbonized world. Deeply researched, beautifully written, the book provides an accessible roadmap through difficult concepts and phenomena.

Native plants in Colorado are mostly full-sun plants except for those from high elevations and my old-neighborhood house has big trees that I wouldn't want to cut down to grow them. I do grow the overlap, e.g., columbines

Fossil fuel companies will try to sue states that ban new or existing production. When I speak with powerful actors in energy policy, this fear is a central concern in how governments think about the risks of phasing out fossil fuels. Here is an important intervention in how to reduce those risks:

🌍 Phasing out fossil fuels is essential - but what if governments get sued for it?

A new blog for SUS-POL from @iisd.org explores a crucial question for climate action. How can countries move away from fossil fuels without triggering costly investor lawsuits?
