The link between homeschooling and child abuse isn’t a grand conspiracy. It’s just a matter of opportunity meeting isolation.

Homeschooling pulls kids out of the daily checks where teachers, counselors, and even classmates can spot bruises, weird behavior, or the kid who’s always “sick” on Mondays

tw: talk of SEVERE abuse

My heart aches for this man. As someone who was pulled out of elementary school to be homeschooled, this is such a horrifying story. This is exactly why we need more checks and balances in place to protect homeschooled children.

Illinois allows anyone, regardless of where they reside to submit a witness slip, which basically a record of whether you support or oppose a bill, and we need as many people to submit them as possible.

The process takes two minutes:

‼️ If you’re a Virginia resident here’s a way you can actively help homeschooled children in your state!‼️ Please try to do so before this Thursday, January 23.
Contact the committee members & tell them you support SB 1031. If you were homeschooled, say so.

This bill does NOT infringe on religious freedom, this bill introduces a baseline requirement that 46 other states already have.

Breaking children’s wills and forcing children to immediately obey are extraordinarily damaging doctrines. They are, to put it simply, examples of spiritual abuse: using religion to justify maltreatment of children.

Illinois has virtually no regulations on homeschooling, allowing parents to pull vulnerable children from public schools and then not provide any education for them. Officials call them "no schoolers."

His Parents Said They Would Homeschool Him. Lax State Oversight Kept His Abuse Hidden.
At 9 years old, L.J. started missing school. His parents said they would homeschool him. It took two years — during which he was beaten and denied food — for anyone to notice he wasn’t learning.
