This is true even in my civil cases. It’s the right and respectful thing to do. And from the most craven perspective sucking up to the jury has biggest ROI of maybe anything.
I completely concur with Renato Martiotti's observation that it is virtually unheard for a defendant not to stand and face the jurors as the enter and leave the courtroom. Everyone else, including Trump's lawyers, stands respectfully.

Remarkable, but unsurprising, it’s mostly just older white guys saying this. We haven’t had to the power of the state turned on us like other groups. They know how shitty it can get and that we are nowhere near bottom.

This is exactly right. We can’t ignore our way out of these problems. Holding them accountable, and on the record no less, is not promoting these awful people.

People seemed to expect Biden to magically erase all the damage done by the last 40 years of the GOP and the last decade by MAGA overnight. America is far from perfect, but OBJECTIVELY it’s in a better place right now than it was and we have to keep our foot on the gas. Perfect is the enemy of good.
it’s a really big problem for progressives and liberalism that any attempt to say “I think things have improved somewhat” immediately gets jumped on by a thousand supposed allies saying “I am very smart and I know things were way better in the past”
