Seems a simple question. What's the answer where you work?
December 2, 2025 at 10:04 PM
Pleased to be featured in Business Plus this week. Lots of people out there doing good work on EV charging and - in general - on solving the energy issues and climate change

What we've been doing in Go Eve aims - above all else - at making the EV transition easier. And it does.

Xiaomi has gotten to 500,000 cars in a fraction of the time taken by any other automaker, ever. Leapmotor got from 500,000 to 1,000,000 faster than any other automaker, ever. You might not even ever have heard of Leapmotor.

The EV revolution is not coming. It's here.

The British OS? Ha. You really are deluded. Them too. It's not 1910.

It's simple. Ireland is not British. Ireland is not a British Isle. Ireland is not one of the British Isles. Ireland is not in the British Isles. You'll get over it

Pretty much, indeed. British places. Though some in NI would quibble.

Ireland is not British.

Ireland is not in the British Isles. Hasn't been for ages. You'll get used to it.

Slumming it tonight.

Factually, the term "British Isles" is increasingly understood to mean what it sounds like. Isles that are British.

I give you the Welsh Farmers.
November 27, 2025 at 11:33 PM
There's nothing technically correct about calling Ireland part of the British Isles.

Ireland is not part of the British Isles.
November 27, 2025 at 11:25 PM
Ah no. There are British Isles.

Ireland is not in the British Isles.
November 27, 2025 at 11:22 PM
Actually, it's what makes some British cranky. They haven't gotten over the loss yet.

Ireland is not in the British Isles. Even the UK Admiralty has dropped the term. 'Course, there still are British Isles. Ireland is not one of them. You'll get over it.

Meantime, Happy Thanksgiving to all my US friends and colleagues. If you were travelling, I hope that went well too!

Here's what Gemini and ChatGPT think summarizes Thanksgiving. Not a mention of Black Friday between them!

An odd take on the housing crisis. The political center-right and the center-left and the left and most of the right should all try to solve the housing crisis - for a LOAD of reasons. And, for a load of reasons, none of them have any intention of it. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/n...

Anyone else remember Ratners?

Interesting. The Cloudflare outage earlier this week was caused by two minor mistakes. The second mistake allowed the first one to cascade onto essentially all of the production machines and break them.
November 21, 2025 at 4:02 PM
Ireland isn't in the British Isles, Hasn't been for ages.
Even the UK Admiralty has changed their charts.

As this historian put it, there's only a residue who still think it is.

AIs - or LLMs - still can't reliably tell the time. Another nice article (with link to the underlying study) from the IEEE. AIs only seem to be smart. Doubt EVERYTHING they tell you - perhaps unless it's the text summarization task that they do seem pretty good at.

It's true. And it matters.

And yeah, there are different names. Polite ones. You've at least heard of manners. Hopefully. No sign of it yet though.

Ireland is not in the British Isles. Hasn't been for ages. You'll get over the loss.
November 19, 2025 at 12:43 PM
I'm not going to do any such thing.

Are you going to tell me that you insist that Britain is still on the shores of the German Ocean? co-curate.ncl.ac.uk/german-ocean/

Britain is not on the shores of the German Ocean.
Ireland is not in the British Isles.

Somewhat unusually for Ireland, the worst weather is in the east and south-east.
It is MISERABLE out there.

Another new DockChain install this week in a rather damp UK.
Can't comment yet on where and who.
Kudos to the install team who suffered in the rain doing the install.

Three things here....
1. Tesla is a marginal car maker in the overall market, and shrinking
2. EV sales are still growing but still not as fast as hoped and needed.
3. Kia and Hyundai are growing fast in the EV market

(note, this is the small Irish market...2025 so far. HT to Adrian Weckler)

Again, despite the cacophony of voices saying that "The EU/UK/US shouldn't try anything about global warming because China" are living in the past. And China, clearly, is moving ahead. Will the EU/UK/US keep up? Will they even try?

For the day that's in it.
What is it now? 107 years since it ended. The war that killed empires and upturned the whole social order of Europe.

Amid all the fake news and nonsense in the world, you can still learn things properly and for free. MIT started OpenCourseWare and - along with others - they're still at it. Learn almost anything, from ancient Greek history to advanced AI.
