Sometimes -- and this is just my own intuition here -- LLM's seem to be throwing up a mirror to the structural flaws in our own human intellectual apparatus.
Tbh I assumed that if your paper referenced another one it meant you had read the paper, understood it, and were relating its content to your ideas. It turns out it actually meant "this paper exists" and now it doesn’t even mean that.
One thing I'm finding surprising about this whole thing about AI hallucinating academic references which are then cited and enter the "evidence base" is how many authors seem willing to cite material that they haven't even verified exists, let alone got as far as actually reading. V poor practice.

It’s weird how often I remember a band that I count myself a fan of, and then realize I’ve only ever heard a few of their most well-known songs.
This is honestly kind of great, because it opens up vast musical territories that I’ve been overlooking for years.

Today I looked up which bands from my youth have continued creating great albums in recent years. I’m surprised to find that according to Reddit, there are tons. Lagwagon, bad religion, propaghandi, less than Jake.
I think this speaks to the stubborn, tireless spirit of punk.

I'm reading "Sixty Poems" by Charles Simic, published in 2007. Almost 20 years old now, and this book is itself a compilation of the poet's work up to that point, going back to 1986.
So I was 25 when this book was published... and 4 when the first poems were written.

Picking up a typography book won't suddenly fill in 20 years of rusting design expertise... but it will certainly make you a type snob for a few hours!
