I don't mind it so much, but... I don't know why they have to keep fannying about with the UI and hiding shit so you can't just get on with stuff.
The context menus pissed me off. I did a bunch of reg hacks to get rid of some of the stupidity and make it bearable.
I'm 99% MacOS these days. 🤷

Yeah they should. But honestly I've never bothered with shielded since my setup never really called for it. I think I only have two 1m network cables in the entire house, the rest is wireless.

Yeah if you're running mains and network cables parallel you're better off with shielded.
Doesn't matter so much if they're just crossing at one point.

I did have a cat5e cable in the mix and it's on the cusp of not being fast enough, though I only replaced it because the end was falling off. Went total overkill with a cat8.
Cable is stiff AF, so forget it if it needs routing around corners. Cat6e would have done. 🤷

I also remember Automan, which was kinda Knight Rider crossed with Tron. He had a little mate called Cursor that could draw him a car or helicopter or whatever to fly about in.
