Middlesbrough Council will get an extra *checks notes* £2,500 from the mansion tax. www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/teessid... (that's if the money goes straight to council, which hasn't been confirmed yet I don' think).
One property in Middlesbrough meets new 'mansion tax' threshold
The mansion, in the south of Middlesbrough, is estimated to be worth £2.4m

@danny-webster.bsky.social has written something good about the Tommy Robinson Carol Service. dannypwebster.substack.com/p/has-christ...
Has Christ been taken out of Christmas?
And is Tommy Robinson the person to put it back?

Got a spare hour to kill before you train from Newcastle Central Station? Why not read through Barth’s Dogmatics at the Lit&Phil just round the corner?

Please watch & more importantly share this very cheeky, rather urgent request for £15k (ideally in one lump sum!)

I'm only on Bluesky so if anyone can post on any other social platforms that would be hugely appreciated @churchofengland.org @dioceseofyork.bsky.social @churchtimes.bsky.social Thanks🙏

The Rt Revd Barry Hill, Bishop of Whitby, writes in today's Church Times on the challenges - and deep joys - of walking alongside communities in Middlesbrough, where deprivation meets faith and hope:
Deprived areas need labourers
The challenges are significant, but they are outweighed by the blessings, says Barry Hill

Wikipedia is obviously great, but its rare dry sense of humour is under-rated.

Happy Reformation Day! May your beer be strong, your Bible in your own language, and your righteousness imputed to you as a free gift on no basis of any of your works.

Today is Reformation Day in parts of 🇩🇪.

In 1517 theologian Martin Luther is said to have nailed his theses to the doors of Wittenberg Church. This is considered the start of Protestantism.

The 500th anniversary of Reformation in 2017 was marked with a Playmobil figure of Luther.

@bishopbarry.bsky.social what’s one of your favourite Bible verses? Ideally a short one that a child could read out

(It’s for a Sunday service where the church is sharing favourite verses to encourage each other)

I've been covering this story for the last three years and it's so frustrating how little people seem to care given the scale of what's happened at Teesworks.

This report is superb, and lays it all out. It covers eight pages, but could easily cover more.

I really recommend this.
It certainly could, as our eight-page SPECIAL REPORT sets out in full, financially unsound detail in the new Private Eye, out now.

This is a truly excellent gag that i worry will be taken out of context on the internet and used as fire for stupid conspiracy theories
Very good stuff from Sadiq Khan at the Labour Irish society event. He said there are two reasons he loves coming to Labour Conference.

“One is the reception at the Labour Party Irish Society reception.

“The second is to get away from all the Sharia Law in London”
