A child of the 1960s. Living in London, drinking good coffee, reading for fun, education and work and taking a few snaps everyday that I see something that I find interesting.
Enjoyed this, not sure that I want to track down a copy of Rope to watch the film but intelligent conversation
NEW EPISODE OUT NOW!

Today is the 1st in our series of live eps recorded at the Regent St Cinema in London: David talks to crime writers Nicci Gerrard & Sean French (aka @niccifrench.bsky.social) about Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope (1948), based on Patrick Hamilton’s play.

I do hope that this take is correct, but so far to much of what comes out of the mouths of Starmer's people sounds like a plan by Baldrick's cunning plans.

When they called the party Reform was it done with the knowledge that they were going to be joined by ex-Conservatives that were too toxic for Thatcher's party?

This is worse than Panorama's drama because:

(1) Trump is “the most openly corrupt president in American history” - beyond Nixon or Harding

(2) Trump did incite the January 6th riot. Any country with a functioning legal system would've jailed him, like Bolsonaro

Jazz OTD: Miles Davis and Gil Evans's reimagining of the first movement of Joaquín Rodrigo's "Concierto de Aranjuez" is an iconic moment in 20th-century music, stretching the boundaries of jazz contributions. They recorded it on November 20, 1959 for the landmark album "Sketches of Spain." #jazzsky

Listening to @quietriotpod.bsky.social today and would suggest that @sturdyalex.bsky.social take a look at current New Statesman and listen to one of their podcasts last week when they did tackle the possible end of the UK's largest benefits family. #notmyking

Went to the Montblanc boutique today to pick up my first fountain pen from them that had been serviced and this Limited Edition model caught my eye (not that I would want to buy one).

It tells you everything you need to know about British politics that the only people who have ever had to apologise for Nigel Farage's long history of racism are the people who dare to call it what it actually is

35 years ago today this happened. I’d grown up in the belief it could never happen, but then it did. It’s not been easy and even now reunification is an ongoing process. However, it makes me wonder what good things may be just around the corner that we currently think are impossible.

RIP Tony Harrison.
Listen to his extraordinary poem ‘v’ which scandalized 80’s Britain.

Given the evidence of the last ten years you could replace Farage with Cameron, May, Johnson, Truss, Sunak, and Starmer in terms of ability to do the job when given the opportunity. That said I suspect that he would be worse than all that have gone before him.

Listening to this was struck that @arusbridger.bsky.social would have more success nailing jelly to a tree than he did getting Nandy to accept that GB News needs regulation to comply with the rules. Not his faulty she just was closed to even speaking about it 😒

This was the first time I came across Conor Gearty and was left thinking that we would be in a better place if he was given the same level of air time as Far Right Reform speakers are.
Listen to this and weep for who we have lost. Just before he died the great Conor Gearty spoke with learning & passion about what his friend K Starmer must do to defend democracy. Try from about 35’ in if you’re pressed for time - but the whole episode is worth it open.spotify.com/episode/27xX...
