It’s fun to frame it as “the bloodline dies with me” because it suggests your family has some deep terrible lore or curse and then people will stop freakin hasslin you about it

Anyway, affordability is a problem (build more houses) and we need to bring down costs (build more houses) but I don't think that effort (building more houses) is aided by deceptive comparisons that imply no real increase in living standards since 1843, a thing which is obviously, laughably untrue.

The Cratchits can afford things - even in their poverty - that the medieval peasant could not. I mean, this is what Bob Cratchit is supposed to look like with Tiny Tim and *my goodness* look at all of that textile he is wearing!

Cloth got *way cheaper* but that doesn't make Cratchit rich.
An image from 1870 of Bob Cratchit from Charles Dicken's A Christmas Carol.

Jake Tapper’s phone automatically texts Mike Johnson’s son every time somebody on CNN says “Department of War.”

CNN is now using the Trump preferred “Department of War” name in its official statements

the democratic party would likely keep funding rural people that hated them because they felt like they had to as they were human beings, republicans will just let them get destroyed, people should be reminded about who started the process

Note: this is not good, it's fine if people want to study International Relations or History of the Ancients and then go on to be an accountant the point of a university education is to learn how to learn things not get a certification for employment

Every smartphone in the world contains a CPU descended from one designed by a trans woman in the 1980s. The Matrix is one of the most influential movie franchises of all time. Electronic music was pioneered and popularized by a trans woman. I could go on

i think my favourite part about being a trans woman is how much of an impact we have on culture. a friend reminded me today about a popular meme format she created. another friend today casually told me about how she was the most notorious roblox hacker when she was a child.

just a day in the life!

You’ll never believe this, but one of the biggest names in comics/kidlit of the last decade is a trans woman!

Couple of problems with this tweet...

1. A GP or general practitioner does not really exist in the United States. There is no GP residency for example.

2. Most family doctors believe in vaccines as much as pediatricians do.

3. Vaccine extortion mill? Big money? I drive a 2008 Toyota RAV4.
A tweet from @kenny_j_miller

His pfp is a white man with a goatee. The tweet is in dark mode.

Pediatricians are vaccine extortion mills. That’s how they make big money. Better to take your kid to a good GP.

they believe “criminal” is a kind of person you are, not a status contingent upon actions you take. J6 rioters going to jail was not an outrage because there are no laws they could break that would make them criminals, whilst innocence or guilt have no bearing on if others are criminals or not

the NYT's Harvard thing is genuinely weird. imagine being obsessed with the politics and social standing of a school you went to three decades ago
jfallows.bsky.social
Shocked, just shocked, by this important scoop on front page of today's NYT. /s/

Based on report that came out ... nine months ago

And behavior long predating that

("Skip a class? Perish the thought!!" Says anyone who ever worked on a college newspaper, which covers a lot of people in the media.)
NYT front page headline: "Harvard Finds Skipping Class Part of Culture."

my only issue with microaggressions was using it as an excuse to be mad at people and attack them. clearly the original idea behind them is still valid

Yeah you need to tax rich childless folks more so my neighbor's kids get free lunch. But the other preferences revealed are

1) teens want to avoid pregnancy (worth saying loudly we don't want to reverse this)

2) immigration is the easy solution people hate (worth saying loudly that they're wrong)
opinionhaver.bsky.social
I think the thing with the debate about ‘Pro-Natalism’ is that everyone kind of dances around saying explicitly is that revealed preferences show lots of people think having kids of sort of sucks for the parent but is clearly necessary for society.
