This is my second go with Bluesky, I deleted my first account a year ago or so.

I’m not super interested in big accounts with thousands+ of followers, with a few exceptions.

I’m more interested in the little accounts like my own. People just living their lives and expressing that as best they can.

There are those who may argue that we never had it, and they would be wrong. There is a definite, palpable shift, and it tilts toward collapse.

Between AI slop, the negative sides of social media, rampant anti-intellectualism, the embrace of pseudo-science, broad attacks on schools, universities, and museums, the already endemic toxicity and vapidity of American culture through great portions of its history, cataclysm is summoned.

Americans fantasize about apocalypse, but I think that they fail to appreciate that we already are experiencing an apocalypse of the mind, of the thinking life.

How in the fuck is that short guy carrying his weapon?!?! He’s almost dragging it on the ground!

And yes, send these dweebs home.

Not to mention the absolute garbage quality of new construction in the last several decades. Paying much more for much less, even if it is bigger and looks less humble.

And I say that as one who benefited from it.

Everything I’ve seen in my lifetime indicates it should fall and be replaced.

Peanut butter on celery (really not that weird, but treated as such by those younger)

Mettwurst and teewurst (skeeves out many Americans, mmm buttermeat)

Blood sausage (again, Americans)

Beef heart (sautéed, maybe with fava beans and a nice Chianti …)

What foods do you love that you fully acknowledge make you a pervert for loving them?

Toolbox exists and she is perfect. A little feisty, too. She bids you well in these horrid times.
Photo of Toolbox the tuxedo cat sitting very alertly on a sofa arm.

Great hike on the Batona Trail in Wharton State Forest, New Jersey. Much damage from the fires this summer, but many trees survived and much new growth down below. Really interesting to hike in the pine barrens.
Pine barren forest, with some charred trees. Clearing in the pine barren forest. Trail running through it. Light purple aster flowers beside a sandy trail. Trail through new growth pine trees, like a miniature Christmas tree forest.

Photobombing a trail sign.
Trail sign for the Batona Trail, with directions and mileage to Lebanon State Forest and Batsto Historic Site. And my head.

Only in South Jersey will you find a man selling pork and broccoli rabe sandwiches out of a rusty van in … a state forest (Wharton State Forest at Batsto).

Getting a very late start at hiking part of the Batona Trail for the day. Good thing I brought my headlamp!
White van with a sign for J Gee’s Catering on it. Placard sign advertising roast pork and broccoli rabe sandwiches for sale and an American flag. Map brochure for the Batona Trail and a portable audio player and earbud headphones.
