The answer is not for people to remain in France. The UK must accept its share of responsibility for refugees.

We have consistently warned that restricting family reunion and other humanitarian pathways drives people into dangerous journeys.

We urge the Government to act now to expand safe routes, so that individuals seeking safety are not forced to risk their lives at sea.

These deaths are:

➡️ the consequence of the absence of safe routes to protection in the UK

➡️ the consequence of penalties and fines imposed by the government on train, ferry and airline carriers who could otherwise bring people safely to the UK.

⚡We are one of over 200 orgs to have signed refugeestogether.bsky.social's open letter to party leaders calling for them to end the divisive politics, racist rhetoric and demonising language of the past.

Only then will they bring unity instead of division and cohesion rather than hate.

❓Did you know that hundreds of thousands of people are forced to wait over 10 years for the right to permanently settle in the place they already call home?

And it’s about to get worse. 🧵

🚨Did you know the government has made it nearly impossible for many refugees to become British citizens?

It's based on how they arrived, not who they are as people. This affects our neighbours, colleagues, friends.

📢Your MP needs to hear from you:

Image of AI face with quote: Passports matter, and they matter particularly as their issue is a prerogative of state sovereignty. Marginalising the role of passports in border controls may seem like a good technical fix to keeping passengers moving rapidly through entry ports, but the deeper consequences of such a move may create friction with other states.
