Let me explain why my reporting isn’t making a consistent case for or against the ban:

Because I’m not on anyone’s team. I’m a journalist just trying to report what’s happening and why.
Crikey: the ban is terrible people are dying
Also Crikey; the ban isn’t doing anything and everyone is getting around it

Sally Scales and Ben Quilty appointed to the National Gallery council. Good to see it is possible to not give these positions to former politicians!

Learn an Asian language. The extra insights into the culture of the country concerned will be worth it.
I need something new to do in 2026 - I've ticked off my bucket list of what to do and who to do it with in politics, policy, community development, campaigns/polling both here and overseas a decade too early and I'm kind of bored. I need one new, interesting 5-10 year project. Suggestions welcome

Good news. I think I've come up with a policy idea that can both eliminate the harm that Trump's trade war is doing to farmers AND also reduce the cost of groceries for regular Americans. (You'll never guess what it is.)
Farmers get a bail out in the face of the costs they've born from Trump's trade war. Quite an admission that his policies have hurt Americans.

Now riddle me this: Why not bail out consumers who are paying more for imported goods?

It must be very odd from the perspective of Japan, Korea, Vietnam or the Philippines watching the hysteria in Canberra over the possible deployment of PLAN vessels somewhere near Australia.

I am not saying it doesn't matter - but it highlights how remote we remain from the region's challenges
