" ... the soul-blighted Donald Trump and the satraps and lackeys who abet his nefarious behavior—are attempting to destroy the foundations of American democracy. This must be stated clearly, and repeatedly."

Sadly, unbelievably, it must be stated again.

A US AG openly defying Congress, refusing to answer questions - why was the Homan investigation dropped? Why was Comey indicted after the DOJ repeatedly found insufficient evidence to prosecute him? - and bringing a hit list of lies & misleading accusations to hurl at senators.
Mean + dumb = evil.

sorry - courts have largely gone along with that assumption (that the TROs fit the exception), even when they don't ultimately grant the appeal.
inkwrat.bsky.social
I think Chris explained in his earlier reporting that higher courts can hear appeals if the TRO "acts like a preliminary injunction" & DOJ has claimed orders against the Trump admin fit that exception - even when they don't ultimately find for the government.

... and Title 10 gives the president the power to invoke the Insurrection Act & override posse comitatus. Which is what these fascist fucks are planning to do.
But here's the thing: there is no insurrection - yet.
They're sending the Guard & ICE thugs into our cities *to incite an insurrection*

Stephen froze like a deer in the headlights and pretended to have connection issues because he unintentionally gave away the game plan.

“Plenary authority is complete, absolute power over a specific area or issue, with no significant limitations."

Show people this clip. This is an insane slip up.

This has nothing to do with crime. This is an attempt to crush political dissent.

Never before, in our entire 250 year history, has the military or immigration agents been used like this. It's dystopian, illegal, and it should stop.

"Once citizens begin to view their own government’s security forces as an occupying army, violence becomes inevitable. Trump’s team knows this. In fact, that’s the point. They are not trying to restore order; they’re trying to trigger the very unrest that would justify further crackdowns." […]

CNN: “An older couple making $85K/year will see their yearly insurance premiums jump from $7K to $25,000 — 30% of their income.” 😳#TrumpShutdown #TrumpHealthCareTax

This is what Dems are drawing attention to and want fixed. Now, not later.

Grijalva: The frustration for me is that it seems as if Speaker Johnson is not willing to swear me in because our politics are a little different, or because I’m going to be the 218th signer—he can just continue to drag this along with no end in sight.

That is not a foundation of our democracy.

Trump’s nominee to be the Army’s lawyer is confused about the First Amendment.

Independent journalists must be free to report the facts without fear of retaliation.

If we're sending troops to war under false pretenses, Americans have a right to know.
Graphic with Senator Warren asking: Is it consistent with the First Amendment for DOD to revoke a reporter’s press credentials for publishing a story that’s critical of President Trump?

DoD official responds: Yes... If the basis was that the person published information that was not otherwise approved for release by the Department.

Senator Warren Responds: Whoa.

What happens to working class people who can’t find jobs because they don’t exist?

This is out of hand. These agents are there to cause trouble and violence, not to keep people safe. These are the scenes that play out in war torn, destitute countries - not America.

This This This

You have to read deep into any of the news stories about this to get to the heart of the story: the senators were being investigated for their role in helping trump on Jan6th.
bluegeorgia.bsky.social
Jessica Tarlov: I'm stunned that Republicans want to draw attention to this because... the senators who were part of this investigation are not just random names that he picked off a list, but people who were named in Jack Smith's charging documents for trying to turn over a free and fair election.

Why does Trump think he's going to get away with jacking up health premiums on families by 75% in order to fund a giant tax cut for his billionaire pals?

Because he thinks his campaign to repress free speech will keep us quiet.

But he's wrong. We are fighting back.

These people are all twisted in the most disgusting ways. They get off on hurting people - and hurting children seems to be the ultimate thrill for them.
None of them have any place in this nation's government, or in its civil society.

Fuck this.

This is nothing but red meat for Trump’s base. A federal law that *Trump* signed into law guarantees backpay to furloughed workers. There’s no disputing this.
moreperfectunion.bsky.social
A new White House memo says that furloughed federal workers aren't entitled to back pay.

This is clearly against the law, which guarantees furloughed federal employees back pay for the duration of a government shutdown.

Trump drove civil servants out of government, attacked universities/news outlets, turned the CDC into an anti-vax megaphone & inflated ICE into an untrained secret police force. In lockstep, SCOTUS discredits the experts before it, the better to extend the regime's hostility towards LGBTQ kids

The political right's greatest project is discrediting experts. Only in a "do your own research" world can their cultural preferences - anti-abortion, anti-gender affirming care - claim equal legitimacy to the left's medically-backed positions on those issues. SCOTUS is a full partner in that effort
