Callback to the last strike. I still stand with workers. Private companies will never serve us as well as a Crown corp with a strong union!

I continue to stand with the Canada Post workers on strike. No amount of inconvenience or media hit pieces will make me blame anyone but the company for refusing to bargain in good faith.

Can’t decide what to buy on Prime Day?

Try: absolutely nothing, and then go support indie bookstores instead 📚

Time for my annual Covid/flu Vaccine PSA for Toronto folks:

If you have mobility issues and need a vaccine at home, Toronto Paramedic Services will come to you! You don’t have to be a senior to qualify. (I was referred by a TPH nurse but self-referral is fine)

Spread the word!

One more week of packing. I can do this. I think.

My tabletop fantasy dyad, Crescent and Exile, is now available for preorder at the Mythworks store. 🖤 www.myth.works/pages/cresce...

All orders (along with crowdfunding rewards) will be shipping in November. Stay tuned. 🌜💫⚔️
Two hardcover books. Left book reads "CRESCENT 2E: Feelings-Delving Role-Playing" and depicts five children running away from a dinosaur. The mood in the picture is light-hearted, playful, and fantastic. The right book reads "EXILE: Dark Fantasy Role-Playing" and depicts a winged figure thrusting a blood-soaked blade out of a horned monster. The mood is mysterious, emotional, and fierce.

I solicited peer reviews as part of my job at OUP Canada, and I cannot imagine transferring that work to AI. Small things like personalizing emails made a huge difference in response rates, plus database info was often inaccurate and needed to be updated during communications.

THE #PICO #TTRPG DIGITAL RELEASE IS DONE!

And its up on my #itchio store page now. I'm happy, I'm relieved, and I'm looking forward to hearing about even more bug-based shenanigans in the near future.

... I still can't believe Silksong JUST beat me to it.

I copy edited these and it was so much fun! Em did a great job linking the mechanics to the themes so that they feel seamless. And their illustrations are really evocative too.

The brilliant new twinned game project by illustrator/designer Em Acosta.

Crescent is about kids who go to the dream world. Then Exile is about them as teenagers in the nightmare world. So rad lol

Covid is a social justice issue.

Mitigations like masks, anti virals, air purifiers and tests cost money.

We should have free respirators in public places. Mandatory masking in hospitals. Clean air benchmarks. Paid time off.

Those steps would drastically reduce spread.

Spa update: I smell like an orange creamsicle and my muscles actually feel normal. This was a good idea.

I told my boss that I'm going to the spa tomorrow and he told me "don't forget to fast". My brain completely locked up trying to parse the joke until he told me it was Yom Kippur. I've never been so aware of how unfamiliar I am with the Jewish experience haha.

The online TTRPG mapmaker Inkarnate formally announced a ban on AI-generated products in its marketplace. This decision arrives less than a week after its CEO faced scrutiny over considering AI in select contexts.

None of the clothes I've tried are thin. The bamboo blend is thicker and warmer than the tencel blend, but the tencel is crisper. I would say the bamboo blend is better for late fall and winter while the tencel is better for early summer and fall.

This whole section really.
Finally: AI cannot do your job, but an AI salesman can 100% convince your boss to fire you and replace you with an AI that can't do your job, and when the bubble bursts, the money-hemorrhaging "foundation models" will be shut off and we'll lose the AI that can't do your job, and you will be long gone, retrained or retired or "discouraged" and out of the labor market, and no one will do your job.
AI is the asbestos we are shoveling into the walls of our society and our descendants will be digging it out for generations:

I'm reviewing the index for "True Color" now, and I just want to heap laurels on the indexer who read this <checks jacket copy> "kaleidoscopic journey" and noted every. single. color. name. mentioned. In a book about defining color names. The index is 6600 words long. A marvel.

Alt: Captain America in...I don't know. The OG Captain America film? Winter Soldier? Not sure! Haven't seen the movies, yes I am a terrible person, I've been busy! Anyway: Chris Evans' Captain America, in the ruins of war, turning and saluting the viewer, weary yet heartfelt.
