I did my best to compile as many protest safety notes as possible into a one page foldout zine! Coincidentally…it seems the file has breached containment…like it’s available for anyone to print or hand out 👀⚖️

Screenshot of notes that read: - So interestingly, this question will take us back to the north in ancient Assyria because the Hanging Gardens of Babylon were actually in Nineveh! - There are a few pieces of evidence for this - first that Babylon is very extensively excavated and nothing like the gardens have been found - Second, there is a lot of detailed textual evidence from Assyrian royal inscriptions that suggest that actually these gardens were built at Nineveh - King Sennacherib who ruled around 700 BCE and was the grandfather of Ashurbanipal who we spoke about earlier built extensive gardens at the Nineveh palace - The texts have weird technical vocabulary for features of water engineering that the scholar Stephanie Dalley has convincingly showed actually refers to a water screw - namely, a kind of palm tree trunk that has a spiral pattern whose components were replicated in bronze to make a water-lifting device - These would have been located above a cistern fed by canals fed by rivers further afield in the mountains - attributed to Babylon because of possible confusion over a kind of standard latitude relied upon by later astronomers to calculate the longest day. This was said to be the latitude of "Old Babylon", but it was actually the latitude of cities further north - namely Nineveh and Nimrud. Actually, Babylon just means "gate of the gods" ', and this was a kind of epithet or label that could apply to cities other than Babylon. - Not so much of a stretch, however convoluted this explanation may feel - Palace reliefs from Nineveh bear out the textual evidence, even if they don't depict hanging gardens themselves, the gardens are immense and provide a visual echo for the descriptions - The Greek historian Berossus tells us that the gardens were in Babylon, built by king Nebuchadnezzar II, to help his Medean wife feel less homesick - Other Greek historians who probably never visited Babylon also tell us that the gardens were there - So I guess it's a

Prefer not to subscribe to regular fees due to financial circumstances.
Must have good compatibility (previous experience with cheap or free software showed it failed to recognise some characters or fonts. Has this changed?
