This kind of behavior by ICE is not remotely OK
A woman recording an ICE agent tells him "Shame on you."

The agent responds, "Have you all not learned from the past couple of days?"

"Learned what?" she asks

Then he knocks her phone out of her hand

The problem isn't ICE; it's Donald Trump and Steven Miller.

Impeachment is not remotely relevant to the real world at this point.
How many fucking times does this have to be repeated?

1. Impeachment is done by the House, not the Senate.

2. The House is controlled by Republicans, not Democrats.

3. Democrats already impeached him, twice. Republicans refused to convict him, both times.

4. Republicans also control the Senate.

Best comment so far on Venezuela.
Seems like an Underpants Gnome situation

Absolutely not. This is just political malpractice.
Democrats need to strongly and uncompromisingly demand that Trump is removed from office for illegally starting a war for oil that benefits no one.

A year ago, I was concerned that we would be in a much worse place by now. We all face more challenges to come. But be hopeful. I am.

On the one hand, totally happy to see her go. On the other Bruce Blakeman a much stronger (though still likely losing) candidate for governor.

Great news: Gov Hochul has reportedly decided to veto a bill requiring two-person train operation.

This poorly-considered bill would've mmediately impacted services that are currently run with one person, and would've make it impossible to fully automate new lines like the IBX.
Gov Hochul will veto a bill to require both a conductor and a driver on every subway train, according to two sources familiar with the decision. Story to follow. Details on the bill here:

No. The question is whether there was discrimination in hiring. The percentage of white men in an industry says nothing about it. I don't know whether the authors were discriminated against, but this isn't a valid response. It's also interesting when the response to an accusation is deflection.
One problem with this take is the number of high profile white millennial men in the media...

This is as clear a violation of the First Amendment as has ever existed.
ICE’s acting director ordered a Boston Catholic parish to tear down its Advent Nativity scene—stripped of baby Jesus and branded with the message “ICE WAS HERE.” The parish priest is refusing, citing he pope’s call to stand with migrants. It's another chapter in Kristi Noem's war on Christians.
“ICE Was Here”: Pope Leo-Inspired Nativity Scene Sparks MAGA Outrage
A Nativity scene missing Jesus — and marked with an “ICE was here” sign — has triggered cries of “politicizing Christmas.” The parish priest says he’s answering Pope Leo's call to welcome stranger.

Unfortunately, true. If we commit unlimited authority to the President and are willing to elect Presidents without regard to their willingness to keep America's commitments. American commitments won't be with much. Eight years at most.
And after yesterday's National Security Strategy, it should become absolutely clear that strong U.S. security guarantees are impossible because we will be even less inclined to keep our word in the future than we have been in the past. The only path to peace is Ukrainian victory/Russian collapse.
Today, on the 31st anniversary of the Budapest Memorandum with its useless security assurances, we are facing a repeat of history as EU leaders warn of the risk of a peace deal without strong US security guarantees.

Strength is the only true guarantor of peace for the EU.

Worth a friendly reminder that the next set of nation-wide No Kings protests are set for October 18th.

There's probably one in your area.

I am not generally a crowds or protests sort of person, but there's one in my town and I'll be at it on the 18th.

Don't know if this is the best way, but it certainly seems like an excellent step to take
The best way to prevent a social network from tolerating death threats against the mods is to very publicly ban the highest-follower count death threat poster. The others will learn to behave.

Safe seat members face strong incentives to endorse interest group laundry lists regardless of the politics, which then defines the national party brand in a way that is hard for frontline members to overcome in an era of nationalized politics.

Trump is a fascist threat; I've said it many times. I merely refuse to join many of you in your fever-dream that the United States is now a fascist regime when it's not even a Hungarian or Turkish regime. I want people to be sober-minded and determined, not hysterical and ineffective.

Priztker: if federal agents fired upon journalists and protesters, when unprovoked, what would we call it?

I don't think we'd have any trouble calling it what it is. Authoritarianism.

So let's not pretend it's something else when it happens in our American cities.

Read every word from @raskin.house.gov: "The core job of the president is plain: 'To Take care that the laws are faithfully executed.' That’s it. Not abused, not thwarted, not impounded, not redirected, but faithfully executed."
This rules - @raskin.house.gov straight up called out Roberts to his face.

Important thread on one of the two most significant separation of powers issues currently being litigated.
Deeply disappointing order from the Supreme Court in the USAID impoundment case. The Court grants a stay for something under half of the impounded funds, letting the district court's order stand for the majority of the money. A short 🧵.
