I like talking about data visualisation and actionable insights in Power BI, and pushing for better vis & UI/UX.
Always meant to read this and found it at this bach we’re renting.

Uplifting, sobering.

Currently digesting this from the afterword:

“Live as if you were living already for the second time and as if you had acted the first time as wrongly as if you are about to act now”

I ended up using a Visual Level Filter instead of physical relationships, that uses TREATAS to filter from one table to the other, when my source table is filtered.

This is what I want natively. And I want to know that I'll see it in my #PowerBI lifetime.

I don't want to have to spend hours overlaying transparent buttons on top of column headings purely so I can tell the user right there and then "This is what goes in to this number".

And this from Ed Hansbury from 2021:

“My kingdom for this button in #PowerBI - I want to clear ALL interactions for a visual in one click.”

And this was from a Tips and Tricks presentation I did years ago but images might not port over well from Twitter:

Been there.

5) Change EI popup location. Instead of being outside the visual where it may be obscured or ambiguously positioned, make the toggle float top left or middle of the visual (unless it obscures), so its easier to know which interaction toggle controls which visual.
November 13, 2025 at 9:57 AM
4) Ability to disable interactions from the "Filters and slicers affecting this visual" pane?

(Only helps for slicer-driven interactions tho)
November 13, 2025 at 9:56 AM
3) And/or add a new column to the Selection pane called 'Sync' that only appears when objects are selected, and that not only shows the EI in force (see orange highlighting) but also toggle them on or off. (Clicking in that Sync col wouldn't unselect the item currently selected.)
November 13, 2025 at 9:55 AM
2) And/or a contextual ribbon where you can filter the display of objects to show only those that the selected object currently has interactions on/off for, and allow users to toggle states. This will make it much easier to identify and change EI selections.
November 13, 2025 at 9:54 AM
Resurrecting old twitter 🧵How could #PowerBI Edit Interactions (EI) be made better?

1) What about a node diagram from the selected object(s), with the nodes terminating in the center of each object, but ONLY showing arrows for the selected object where EI settings have been changed from default.

"As a #PowerBI developer, I want to know whether by this time next year I will have the ability to reference hex codes stored in Measures in the CF dialog, so I don't have to cut and paste hex codes stored in a text box into my CF dialog while cursing about the complete lack of dev-centered design".

Hmm...even if I have an Emp DIM and Emp Fact, I don't understand how I'm going to meet the requirement that someone clicks on the Annual Leave calendar heatmap visual and sees a list of names of people who have leave booked on that day, without a relationship between Emp Fact and Leave Taken.
November 11, 2025 at 2:36 AM
I have two date relationships between Date - one to "Joined Date" and one to "Last Day" - so that I can then construct the following visual, that uses these relationships to group starters/leavers by month.
November 10, 2025 at 11:44 PM
Okay #PowerBI #DAX people is this bidirectional filter between Leave and Employee "bad"?

I've built an annual leave heatmap, and I want to be able to click on one of the dates and see *who* the people are who have taken leave on that date. And likewise click a person to see their booked leave

This for instance is just common sense and I can’t believe we don’t natively have this already.

@jaypowerbi.bsky.social I currently hide transparent bookmarks over column headers purely so I can provide a much needed tooltip explaining logic used in column measures. Real PITA.

Apparently visual appeals for visual improvements work best.

Note to self: If you stupidly search for the "*" character in DAX , you are ALWAYS going to find it at position 1, regardless of whether it is there or not.
