Unbelievable to think we got an Eastwood, Mike Leigh and 3 Kurosawa films in one year!!! Verifiable masters of their craft who all got completely passed over at award shows for "Sean Baker" and "Brady Corbet."

Cloud is probably up there for The Best Film About Being Alive Right Now and the best film ever made about how evil the internet is. Only possible with Kurosawa at the helm! The most important working director right now, if not the best

So much of Clint's later stuff is overlooked but it's all great, just some excellent contemporary film-making by one of the most interesting figures in cinema period. The Mule is brilliant yet overlooked, J.Edgar is one of the very best films of the century; give Clint his flowers!!

Like this is Clint at the peak of his powers at *94 years old.* It's not just an alright late stage film by one of America's greatest directors, it's a god damn modern touchstone with a Nicholas Hoult performance that could literally kill me!! It might be the film of the decade so far!!

This all being said; if I was a commercial film critic I WOULD review Marvel films, I'd probably just be way more rude about it. A hateful critic who can put on a performative spin might turn the tide. "Oh they hate my capeshit? Guess I'll just go hatewatch Juror #2 because they love it so much!"

A lot of the takes I read in response to that Will Sloan skeet made me think some working critics are merely reactionary. A lot of "You shouldn't work as a critic if you put yourself above certain movies" Do you have no backbone? It's okay to go into a Marvel movie and know exactly what to expect

When I think of my favourite works from 2024, it's hard to think of any that have a moment as special as this one. Evil Does Not Exist have a lot of moments that come close and I'm particularly fond of a few scenes in Megalopolis, but none have felt as emotive as the cave in this film.

Irony is the exact reason we're here right now. The reason America is controlled by the world's richest man, the reason why so much hate exists, the reason why the arts are failing, the reason why so many everyday people distrust experts. Irony is hell!
