I have been following U.S. politics for 68 (!) years since I watched the '56 Democratic convention with my father the week before I turned 10. I can say with some confidence that I have never seen it this bad.

The United States imposed sanctions on four judges from the International Criminal Court. 💔

The main reason was the arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It’s a clear attempt to weaken the court’s power. 👩🏻‍⚖️⚖️

Hey, if the media is interested in a cover-up of a senile president who's not really in control of his White House, there's one going on right now?

From Los Angeles on Saturday...and it becomes more painful with each passing day.

I would just add to this 'heartbreaking'. I grew up in Detroit and have extended family in Canada. The damage that this very damaged man is doing is incalculable.
This is painful, and saddening, and embarrassing. I feel like we're losing a member of the family - and for no good reason other than that some Americans wanted another season of the worst reality TV show in history.

A priceless summation of this unbelievable situation. (Very proud I got through that without swearing...)
Five kids who didn't read the assigned book, didn't do their reports, lied about reading the book, then blamed their teacher and the author of the book, all knowing the orange principal will give them "Class Participation" trophies.

Exactly. Bert Lahr as The Cowardly Lion would best all the Republicans in Congress.
I'm so sick of cowardly men.

This is my favorite Valentine's greeting, and this year it goes out especially to @stephencolbert.bsky.social, @jimmykimmel.com, and @latenightseth.bsky.social for keeping some of us sane.

For anyone who has a friend/relative/colleague who works in the Federal government - please note!
I’m not a lawyer yet, but my advice as a layperson to any federal employees is this: do not take this deal. There’s no money approved for the severance packages they’re offering and a very good chance you’d be left without either a job or a severance package.

The time since the U.S. election has been a challenge. Facing the fact that a significant portion of the American population is so hypnotized / distracted / oblivious / ill-educated / ill-informed that they are no longer capable of supporting or participating in a real democracy is a challenge.

I totally agree - the old party and political labels are meaningless at this point. (Although there are a few other categories we might explore...)
The biggest divide in America today is not between “right” and “left,” or between Republicans and Democrats.

It’s between democracy and oligarchy.

The old labels — “right” and “left” — prevent most people from noticing they’re being shafted.

Know the truth.

Anyone else getting vibes that we're living through an echo of Christmas season 1989? The Berlin Wall fell on November 9th and by Christmas week the countries of the Eastern Bloc were folding like dominoes. '89 seemed more hopeful tho. #NewWorld(Dis)Order?

Something to bear in mind...
Just a little reminder that the South Korean president who just declared martial law was elected two years ago on a wave of anti-feminist backlash. Misogyny is routinely part of the authoritarian package.

Why misogyny is at the heart of South Korea's presidential elections
Disgruntled young men who resent feminism are the focus of candidates vying to be president.
