Warning! ⚠️

While there's no snow on the ground there's some of the worst ice today around us, including black ice!

If you're using the Grand Canal Cycle Route or going a bit further towards Harold's Cross Bridge, please watch out for these:

People cycling are supposed to wait for a green light -- I've tried it and it's fairly responsive, including switching for cyclists ahead of me who didn't wait.

I agree they need to shave off a bit of the footpath. The current arrangement shouldn't have lasted as long as it has but it is...

Anybody missing a bicycle?

How is Copenhagen... marketed as the cycling capital of the world... still building bus stops like this in new development areas?

This is the kind of design which a report showed resulted in more bus user injuries, and in recent years has been used against all cycle paths at bus stops:

...not enough stacking space at many corners of the design.

And to get from A to B here legally, you have to cycle past the traffic lights at 1-4 first -- I'm not saying it's likely all will be red, but two or more could be, and it's a very convoluted routing. It's known people will risk...

If you look at the cycling movements possible (to/from A-F), look at how many possible times somebody cycling might be stopped at a traffic light vs cars, and all movements from A-D to F need to use the footpath, and from E-F to D need to use the footpath.

There's also still....

It seems that @dubcitycouncil.bsky.social is not willing to learn from their mistakes at dangerous and inefficient junction design.

If you cannot see children trick-or-treating, maybe consider not driving tonight?

This seems to be a real comment or some fairly bad trolling. 🙃

Here' screenshots of headlines from Cork Beo and the Irish Examiner calling a "Powerful off-road e-Moto" and simply a scrambler...

Meanwhile, other outlets keep it unclear with "e-bike", which removes the context that the Gardai had in their press release.

I think the bicycle industry and advocates should abandon the use of "e-bike" when referring to an electric assisted bicycle.

E-bicycle should be a protected phrase, like Champagne, to only mean road legal electric bicycles which are treated the same as bicycles.

Tell me why I'm wrong.

It's on existing tracks besides turning tracks etc. The extra capacity is from a mix of things including having a shuttle to Howth and simplifying service (only Dart and Intercity).

The All Ireland Railway review suggests new tracks and the section in the main built up area of Dublin is being...

Yesterday I bumped into Dublin's most famous cargo bicycle dog, Raven, and had the pleasure of cycling with him (and some guy cycling him around) for a while:

Is this a contender for the worst urban roundabout in Ireland?

Or have I got this wrong? Is this no longer an urban area and merely just a junction where regional roads meet, and there just happen to be a few houses and shops here at the edge of the small town of Graiguenamanagh.

It looks like the Gardai are thinking ahead to when somebody tries to cut this down -- I've seen a few Facebook comments advocating for it to be cut down already:

As well as changing the rules to allow "granny sheds" without planning, the Government is looking at allowing bicycle sheds without planning at the front of houses.

What's the maximum size bike storage that should be allowed at the front of a house? What other conditions should be included?

IrishCycle is currently down due to a wider issue which our hosting provider is having.

Out of these articles, only the Irish Independent includes balance.

The Irish Times, RTE.ie and the Business Post all act as stenographers. All failing to counter clear misinformation.

RTE.ie quotes comments from its own Drivetime. But while Drivetime had balance, the RTE.ie article doesn't.

Are these all silly cyclists without helmets?

Mass helmet use is not compatible with mass cycling for transport. Few beyond the dedicated think helmet hair is ok, and cannot be used in the same breath as 'inclusive cycling'.

Thanks to @philipb-h.bsky.social for saying that opinion is divided.

This is from last Monday -- spotting two cargo bikes like this would have been rare a decade ago and now it's common in Dublin.
