If I ever sat down one morning and wrote "some great Shakespearean scene / where a ghost and a prince meet / and everyone ends in mincemeat," I'd like to think I'd take the rest of the day off.

Damn it, just successfully wired a wireless printer in less than 15 minutes. Missed out on the Nobel Prize for Physics by 8 hours. Early prediction for next year.

Leonard and Hungry Paul is such a magical book. I am delighted to be a tiny part of this novel becoming a television series.

My sincere thanks to everyone who has supported the Global Sumud Flotilla. I'm home safe & will be followed by the other Irish people today. I'm just catching up and have much more to share but for now I am so so grateful for everyone's attempts to free us. Remember that Gaza is the story not us.

What a fantastic pleasure to speak at the wonderful Iron Mountain Literature Festival in Carrick on Shannon on Saturday.

Leitrim is the Irish county most heavily blighted by deadzone sitka plantations, so much of the discussion centred on the total contrast with an actual native forest *ecosystem*.

Best wishes to @booksupstairs.bsky.social, staff and customers. Glad to hear that this isn't as bad as it might have been. Sincerely hope that it's just a stupid attack, rather than a stupid and sinister one.

I remember hearing Paul Heaton being interviewed one time, and he said he would like The Housemartins to be like The Platters or The Coasters where the band name stayed the same but the line-up of singers kept changing so they could go on and on.

Via Sarah Clancy's partner Anne Mulhall:

"Friends I am so happy to tell you that Sarah and all the Irish flotilla heroes are in the air flying to Athens and will all be on flights home to Dublin tonight or tomorrow.
Sarah will be arriving into Dublin airport at 11pm tonight."

Andrew O’Hagan:

I am really excited by Namanlagh, the first poetry collection in 10 years from the great Tom Paulin. A tone-perfect meditation on illness and recovery, partnership and writing, violence and historical neglect, it is an absolute cracker.
