Agreed, at this point I’m much more concerned about the 10-20% in the middle that’s made clear they straight up just doesn’t care about anything. They put the fascist third over the edge.

They MASTERED this sort of perverse rhetorical flip during the Biden era I’ll absolutely give them that.

You see it everywhere once you look: “free speech” used to justify crackdowns on speech, attacks on the “elites” used to rationalize regressive economic policies that hurt the poor, etc etc

Revealed preferences yeah.

Thinking of 2016 era NAFTA “Dems abandoned working folks” discourse and how Biden’s economic agenda seeking to address this not only didn’t placate people at all, but they were actively angry at the suggestion that it even mattered.

What’s sad is that the obsession over minor missteps from Dems isnt to serve any higher ideal, it’s just to rationalize and justify GOP abuses of power (“see, everyone does it!”) while scolding anyone who names them plainly.

Another weird horseshoe between the far left and the reactionary center

I still wonder how willfully obtuse you had to be to think Dems were overreacting or “hysterical” about it (clearly not enough!)

Like what’s the right response when the opposing party’s president tries to violently overturn a free and fair election lol

Same dynamic with 1/6 and it’s not even just the right. The moderate center and even the far left sometimes has felt more compelled to police efforts to hold coup perpetuators accountable than the coup attempt itself!
It is a remarkable conceitedness by a professional purveyor of words that words are the thing that matters most - really the only thing - so the mean words said against a murderer matter as much as the mean words said in support of a murderer, but what matters not at all is the fact of the murder.

They come off as so weak and reactive, which I honestly think the median voter they’re trying to appeal to hates so much more than the actual substance of left wing policy/moral values.

The fanatics did, definitely. I think many less engaged, low-info supporters are insulated to the point they couldn’t conceptualize what the state violence they voted for would actually look like (so ppl trying to tell them came off hysterical)

I get it, but the desperation to find and cling to anything, no matter how absurd, that absolves them of the behavior of their party’s decade-long leader is disturbing…
