What a perfect way to start a day!

Well done that man.

Gavin has shown himself unfit to be President. This is why we should let our current President take a third term, despite his age. Who cares what the constitution says.

And I just opened a drawer in my den to stuff some paperwork away while my laptop restarts and I've found two chocolate bars in there!!

(I should buy a lottery ticket!)

Also - bless the darlings at HMRC for working this out - HMRC owes me about £85. So I’m starting the day in a pretty fine mood!

Apparently the existence of autumn is news now, but I guess it’s nice to see a cheery headline.
Pretty picture of colourful autumn leaves reflected in a lake next to the headline:
Gardens
‘Fiery and spectacular’ rainbow of autumn colour set to bloom across UK.
Surprise!

The Apollo at Hammersmith is my favourite and my best gig venue. Been coming here for 40+ years!

You know, it reminds me of medieval cathedrals at this point. Huge edifices that took literal generations to complete, a vast investment of resources: time, materials, money, even lives. All for the glory of god, because people thought (as they always do) they were living in the End Times.

OpenAI’s planned data centers will use more power than New York City & San Diego use at their peak consumption, combined. More power than the entire nations of Switzerland & Portugal combined. And San Altman’s buddies in this administration have been cutting all of our energy infrastructure upgrades
Sam Altman’s AI empire will devour as much power as New York City and San Diego combined. Experts say it’s ‘scary’ | Fortune
Andrew Chien told Fortune he’s been a computer scientist for 40 years but we’re close to “some seminal moments for how we think about AI and its impact on society.”

Life in the shoe:

Thinking of more innocent times when Soviet spaceware seemed a little less hellbent on mutually assured destruction.

Today in 1957 USSR launched Sputnik 1, which Difford's Guide marks with a Sputnik cocktail.

I think this is super-interesting and would love to take some time to turn the wisdom here into a menu rotation that feeds my family in a way that suits me (as a cook) and them (as happy eaters).

It looks mostly doable - except for the low cheese levels. 😢

To reduce child poverty, government must scrap the two-chid limit. And that means fully scrapping it – no benefit cap, no tapers, no new limit. All children deserve the best start in life, and messing around the edges of this policy won’t cut it. 2/2

The govt published its strategy to revitalise local communities last week

There is a heavy focus on directing funding to high streets and community spaces, which is part of the reason for declining "pride in place"

But it seems misguided for a few reasons

You’ve just reminded me … a few months back I had a binging thing somewhere in the house randomly irritating/waking me over and over. It went on for weeks. I never discovered what it was. But it’s not still happening now, so yay!
