US economy based on a climate vulnerable asset: housing. And insurance industry can't keep up.

But vulnerable asset owners are mostly unorganized & thus underrepresented in policy and politics.

If the US housing market tanks, so does the US economy. Existential Politics in a nutshell.

Everyone should be furious at these Democrats for voting to fund ICE, but the real culprit is Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

He refused to pressure his members to vote against ICE. He quite literally chose not to lead. Pathetic.
Jeffries Won’t Whip Vote Against ICE Funding - The American Prospect
While the House Democratic leader announced personal opposition to a funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security, he won’t pressure his colleagues to do the same.

Idk where this brings us. China is already weaponizing its green revolution and will dominate the 2nd half of the 21st c, among other things, w/ a cultural narrative of climate leadership.

Is 🇨🇳 the climate champion we deserve? Probably.

I’m still on the fence on whether it‘s the champion we need.

The TACO cycle:

Markets want to price in TACO. But TACO only works if Trump sees stocks tank.

So we get a loop: Trump does things → nothing happens (markets already priced in TACO) → that emboldens him to do more → until markets start to think he might not TACO → stocks fall → TACO is restored.

Europe says it has diversified away from Russian gas.
But the data tells a different story.

A new analysis @piria.bsky.social Raffaele Piria, Hannah Lentschig, Louise van Schaik and I just published shows the EU has largely swapped one dependency for another—from Russia to the US.

Finally, it is a good example why the current European Parliament is so unpredictable - majorities are much tighter, and thus even a few rebels can decide a vote. Here the failure of the centre left and centre right parties to keep their rebels in check were decisive.

A key part of the struggle against encroaching authoritarianism is to reject rather than perpetuate the Trumpist assertions of absolute power, to push back against the notion that resistance is futile – that MAGA is inevitably marching towards triumph.

Attn news commentators: Trump saying he could use force to obtain Greenland but won’t is not Trump saying he won’t use force to obtain Greenland. It is Trump using force as a threat to obtain Greenland. That is why he mentions it.

The Canadian Liberals are not 'challenging economic orthodoxy' either and the issue with this Labour government isn't that they aren't, it is that they have wishful thinking on spending and are, in fact, challenging economic orthodoxy on growth and migration.
