My folk-horror story, 'The Crow Who Burned', will be in the 'Under The Leaves' anthology by @wishusdonna.bsky.social (check out the cover art!). The story started as an experiment in writing with a Belfast voice in an authentic but accessible way but grew arms and legs (and wings).

Book cover and extract reading: “No one would’ve thought you could last this long in the wilderness. Too much of a city girl. You’ve never even camped at a music festival, preferring to find a local B&B within commuting distance. Back then, you didn’t listen to the talk of “missing the full experience”; you’d rather have a real shower to warm you up at the end of those long days. You can’t deal with mud caked on your skin, not even for a beauty treatment. It’s too much sensory overload. Yet here you are: no shower since you left civilisation, crouching on your haunches and stoking a campfire, alone in the middle of an ancient woodland and covered in dust. Senses both dulled and heightened. You tell yourself it was your only choice, really. You needed space. You needed time to think. Life is too, too noisy. How are you meant to figure out who you are and what you’re meant to do if you’re surrounded by the noise of London all the damn time? You told yourself that a week in the woods would clear your mind, help you figure out what a woman should be at this age, past 40 yet without the expected trappings and baggage. When there’s no man, no kids, no career… Nothing but a whole big pile of steaming nothing.
