No, I have no research on this :) Just feel a lot safer when I don’t get passed with a foot or so distance.
In general, I find it hard to compare biking in US vs Europe.
In Germany the minimum passing distance is 1.5 m. Speed limit within cities is lower, roads are narrower, cars on avg smaller.

If we could get “20 is plenty“ across towns for cars as well, then sure, limiting ebikes makes sense. But as it is right now, it is a lot safer to go 20-28mph and flow with traffic than getting passed dangerously close by most drivers.

Well, at least he's not going to cause a lot of damage to others. Much rather he texts on a unicycle than in a car, where he could easily take out a family.

We continue to show them that they are worthy of being in the streets only in a car.. Even though getting the kids hooked on active and public transportation would be the easiest way for a long term mode shift imo 🤷🏻♀️

We fail our kids if we don’t teach them the rules of the road at a young age - whether they ride with or without „e“.
I also taught mine all the ways drivers usually break the rules, so they know what to expect…
And as long as they wear a helmet, I‘m excited to see them take over the streets ❤️

I am so with you! Ignorant old people in Marin making life difficult for teens because they were too lazy to read and understand the CA law before they implemented this.

I understand they need their paychecks, they are people like all of us. They didn't sign up for the National Guard to fight Americans. I wonder if we could fundraise for people who don't show up to their National Guard job tomorrow.

The teens in my world gained a lot of autonomy with their ebikes (though they ride bikes too) - they fix most of it themselves, learning along the way. This transport to the shop was a pure mechanical problem that they couldn’t fix 🤷🏻♀️
Probably learning more mechanics skills with finicky ebikes 😁
