Oh totally, I think US law, and the world buying into it's concepts is pretty shitty. My takes here are pure diagnostics, not endorsement.
jacobian.bsky.social
I've always kinda seen it as a silent group agreement where no one ever questions the framing because it's in everyone's best interest to just go with it.

And that has proven to be very true. But still, it's just not immoral, and that's worth saying too.
jacobian.bsky.social
It's entirely that way due to US law. If people are born gay, then it's an immutable trait and under the Fourteenth Amendment it's rights are protected.

The power of US law has forced that to be the default framing because other framing could harm the legal precedent

But morally, it doesn't matter
jacobian.bsky.social
I sometimes worry we get so tied up in the legal frameworks because they're material barriers to protections that we forget the actual MORAL question.

The answer to "is it harmful to be gay or trans" is a simple, unquestionable no, no matter why people are gay or trans. And that's important too.
jacobian.bsky.social
Through this lens the argument being made isn't "being trans should be illegal because it causes harm", it's instead "I want to use legal reasoning to back-solve into taking people's rights".

Which is something that's ACTUALLY deeply immoral.
jacobian.bsky.social
Also, 'born this way' is just a legal argument. It only matters because American law is so powerful here and overseas.

It isn't an ethical, or even factual consideration. If it turned out being trans or gay was a choice or environmental that wouldn't make it immoral or otherwise bad.

Some of you are blaming @jay.bsky.team or @bsky.app in general, or claiming that this is being forced by @moderation.bsky.app. That could not be further from the truth. I'm shutting it down of my own volition because some of you can't be trusted to use this information reasonably and responsibly.

This dude is such a nazi collaborator fuck. His entire adult life he did PR for warcrimes and is still stuck in that mindset.

The thing is, you can't distinguish far-left accounts from the MAGA-prankster accounts, because the horseshoe theory is real.
jacobian.bsky.social
These people shouldn't be allowed to ever take their uniforms off again, they should have to spend the rest of their hopefully short lives dressed as the nazis they are.

U.S. Northern Command says that elements of the Texas national guard are now “employed in the greater Chicago area.”

The statement claims that they’ve been deployed to protect ICE and federal property.

Effective today, elements of the Texas National Guard, under Title 10 authority and command and control of U.S. Northern Command, are employed in the greater Chicago area.
These soldiers are employed to protect U.S.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other
U.S. Government personnel who are performing federal functions, including the enforcement of federal law, and to protect federal property.

donald trump is a fascistic leader who has surrounded himself with people who are explicitely pro-fascistic that want to end democracy as we know it and punish anyone who dissents. pretending otherwise leads me to believe you agree with them doing this

Oh, another note on this. I don't think liberals would be MUCH better either. But the difference in their ideology is an important prism into how these people, in particular, suck.
jacobian.bsky.social
These people aren't liberals. They're tech libertarians. It's important to understand that, it contextualizes everything they do

They do not have good morals, their ideology is about finding ways to exempt themselves from the concept of morality in favor of "no one is responsible to anyone else".

I'd respect him more if his actions matched his words. Illinois State Police aiding in the ethnic cleansing kinda ruins everything he has to say because he clearly doesn't mean it, or at least doesn't want to take any personal risk.

I still drown in stuff and drop stuff but the record of "ah shit, that thing" saves me and a promise to myself to check 2 things a day keeps momentum. It's the only thing that's ever worked for me (including meds, sadly, which just make me focus on OTHER stuff)
jacobian.bsky.social
I say this with nothing but love and compassion, as a very similar person with very similar problems (including the "hit me up whenever" idiocy, god that one gets me in trouble):

Invest in a todo list. I use sublime text and a shitty checkbox plugin, but it's the only reason I make progress on ever

(The other reason for federation, I suspect, is a ploy to lower hosting cost. They can keep taking venture money because X people are using At proto networks, but they pay less hosting and can accumulate more wealth.

The other core libertarian idea is 'Money is the only thing that really matters')
jacobian.bsky.social
Federation isn't about protecting people or giving people options, it's a tool to allow them to not be responsible for any choices they make. "You can leave", to them, means "whatever we do isn't harmful because you can leave".

It's non-aggression-principal bullshit but make it crypto.

She is the COO en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chief_o... of bsky. This is worrying because after the 'we are turning waffles into an anti-trans thing' by the CEO the CEO started to follow a transphobe. Shows a pattern.

Wonder when we find out one of them follows the discovery institute.

And by cool I mean you suck and everyone in your life should treat you like shit.
