Oversight of the state prisons is crucial as $1.1 billion of our tax dollars go toward maintaining it. This year, I was proud to support the establishment the Independent Prison Oversight Commission. Next year, the work continues to fund the commission and pass more criminal justice initiatives.

According to the Medical Examiner's Office, 36 people died after being booked into Maricopa County (Phoenix) jails last year, nine more than the 27 previously reported by the Sheriff's Office. Think about that. A QUARTER of jail deaths were not acknowledged by MCSO last year.
