I care less about Signal chats and more about the blacksite offshore concentration camps we're sending random people to without any semblance of a trial, so I'll be interested to see if the national media can rub their bellies and pat their heads at the same time this week. Historically they can't.

Next week, we're thrilled to welcome back alumni @jakenewsome.bsky.social! On Tues, Jake will talk about his book PINK TRIANGLE LEGACIES. On Wed, he and PTL intern Grace Shaffer will lead a workshop on how they translate traditional scholarship into vital, accessible digital history advocacy.
This is a promotional poster for an educational event titled "Pink Triangle Legacies: Holocaust History & the Fight for LGBTQ+ Rights." The poster has a dark green background with pink and white text. It features a photo of a person at what appears to be a pride demonstration, wearing a black jacket with a pink triangle symbol and holding a rainbow flag. The event details include: Tuesday, March 25 at 2:00pm in Capen Hall 107. The text describes a presentation by historian Dr. Jake Newsome about how the pink triangle transformed from a Nazi concentration camp badge into a symbol of LGBTQ+ pride and liberation. The event will include a presentation followed by Q&A and book signing.
This is a flyer for a workshop titled "QUEER HISTORY FOR QUEER LIBERATION: A Workshop on LGBTQ+ Digital History." The flyer has a green background with white and pink text. It promotes a workshop by the Pink Triangle Legacies Project about transforming academic research into a digital public history project. The workshop will cover using digital history to restore LGBTQ+ voices to historical narratives. The event details include: Wednesday, March 26 from 2:00-3:30 PM in Capen Hall 305, led by Dr. Jake Newsome and Grace Shaffer from the Pink Triangle Legacies Project team. The right side features a circular image of a classroom setting with students at computers and an instructor. At the bottom, it notes the event is sponsored by the UB History Department and the Digital Humanities Research Workshop.

Our house was vandalized last night. I’m sure it was teenagers pulling a “prank.” But ours is the only house in the neighborhood with a pride flag 🏳️‍🌈 and it was the only house toilet papered.

Could it have been worse? Yes.
Am I glad it wasn’t worse? Yes.
Am I going to take down our flag? Fuck no.

Look, we tried to warn people. At this point, the only way out is through. Trump will precipitate a collapse and only then can we rebuild towards a better future. Our goal is to minimize the number of people we lose along the way. Build community, help others. Resilience is all we have.

Stop letting unfunny men tell you there’s something wrong with you for not getting their “jokes”. Stop fake laughing. Let their reality reflect the truth of how fundamentally they misunderstand humor. Neuter their ability to use “it was a joke” for emotional cover. Make them see nobody laugh.

If you’re in an institution doing any kind of DEI work, the most important thing to do right now is simply call it something else. Change it to “Community Outreach” & then keep on doing the same important work. When they outlaw Community Outreach rebrand it as “Strategic Partnerships,” rinse/repeat.

Alright, history hive mind. I’m looking for some examples of “great men” in history (especially scientists, philosophers, philanthropists, etc) who were famously promiscuous. Any time period, but especially the Victorian era and the Gilded Age. Any recommendations?

I'm amazed this has to be said, but IT IS ABSOLUTELY FINE AND GOOD for people to have outlets and interests that can give them joy at times of immeasurable existential crisis, and demanding that they don't and instead fall into irremediable and permanent despair is doing the fascists' work for them.

2025 is starting off with a sucker punch. My great aunt passed away yesterday. I’m having trouble putting into words how special she was to me. I had to get out of the house, so I spent the afternoon seeking solace in nature, among the ancient mountains and eternal stream.
