So no, mate. Gavin Newsom is no great liberal hero for throwing trans people under the bus while “resisting” Trump. And while I try not to make vapid historical comparisons, please look up all the establishment politicians who compromised while “opposing” fascism. The story tends not to end well.

And that’s before we get to intersectionality. No one fits into one box; that too is fascist thinking. Curtailing trans rights is an attack on literally everyone and we don’t even need to get to the tepid “imagine if this affects cis people too!” arguments to see that very clearly indeed.

Today I'm doing some things I'm actually pretty excited about (and I owe enormous thanks to @kilderbenhauser.bsky.social for thoughtful...uh, thoughts). I did, however, get stopped in my tracks when a meme popped up on my feed that urges the reader to, among other things, "call your mother."

This feels spot-on. People often use an "acceptable" cover for their real bigotry.

But also, I hear the term "anti-AI bigotry" and all I can imagine is Tommy Tallarico yelling about "gaming racists."

My take on “anti-AI bigotry” is that

1) coded bigotry against actual people, “aimed at” fictional/nonexistent personae as a plausible mask over the actual target, is a real thing that happens, and you could use basically anything as the mask if you were so inclined

2) “anti-AI bigotry” isn’t real

The world is hard. I’m an orphan, which feels frighteningly Victorian. I don’t know what my future looks like, my heart breaks and then mends a little and then breaks again and again. I’m so exhausted. I don’t have anywhere that is home any more.

So anyway it was time to get my ears pierced.

Great mysteries of state bureaucracy: if I went through normal channels to get a copy of my birth certificate, they would take until at least next Wednesday to process the application.

Because I paid them $40, they now have it ready for me 47 minutes after I applied.
